Getting cue to Vegas

Am going to Vegas to play in the singles tourney. It's only 4 days I will be there, so i would not need more than a duffle bag (don't need a suitcase).

But I want to bring my cue to play with. Is it better to check it in (maybe in a suitcase) or to fedex or ups it to myself?

I've been 4 times traveling from NY. Always packed it in its case in my checked luggage, haven't had a problem yet. FYI I don't own a +$2000 cue, if I did, I would consider shipping it to my hotel.

I use a lacrosse bag and never had a problem the 5 times I've been. Works great cause all my clothes & sticks in 1 bag.

But I'm a direct flight. If I had to change planes somewhere I personally wouldn't chance it.

I do the same when traveling, baseball or lacrosse bag, wrap case in a few towels or something for further cushion, pack clothes around it, never had an issue so far. Always check it as soon as I grab the bag. A little nervous since probably have $4K - $5K in equipment in there, but like I said never had an issue in years. Still can't wait for rules to go back the way they were...

You can call the hotel where you are staying & they will give you the address to ship your Cue to. I would call them about the security & any process you might want to learn about to protect it until you pick it up. That has always worked for us at the Riviera, but those are behind us. Be sure to insure it for it's real value.

Good Luck

Only thing is...if it wasn't for bringing my cue (just my playing, not my break since it 7 ft valleys) I wouldn't have get to any luggage at baggage

So that's why I am thinking of the fedex/ups method

I just took my case on a flight last weekend. I went to Big 5 and bought an extra large duffle bag for $15 and packed my cue and clothes in it without any issues.

It was the stewardess' union which balked at allowing 4" blades on airplanes which prevented/postponed the TSA relaxation of the rules defining pool cues as weapons. It should be noted that technically you could carry-on table leg if it was turned on a lathe, but NOT a pool cue. However, none of the friendly TSA agent's i've spoken were very helpful when pointing that out. They seem to hate their jobs as much as we hate them.

Back to the original post: as others have said, pack your usual cue inside it's usual case, then put that in a duffle bag and fill with clothing. Personally I wrap the cue case in a layer of bubble wrap on the ends as that is where it is protected the least in a duffle bag.

I'm going out for singles as well. I'm putting my cues in my luggage and carrying my case on. Thats what I did this summer on my flights to vegas

They let me fly with my cues out of Pittsburgh, but in Vegas they made me take the cues out. That was through airtran. Southwest has 2 free checked bags so I'm flying with them this time
