getting inspired

I was playing 9 ball with 2 guys earlier tonight (one is a good friend and the other one is a AA player). While we were playing Danny Hewitt came watching how we play and to crack some jokes, he was about to go put some new tips for the house cues so I decided to go and have a talk with him about life and pool in general...the decisions he made in life...how he feels about pool these days. We talked alot about the pressure from playing in tournaments for big $$$ and how its hard to make a living just by playing in the tournaments (hence his job at the local poolhall).

He seemed to put a lot of emphasis that pool, although VERY enjoyable, can be a very frustrating game in tournaments because you can play and not miss a shot and still lose...because you were hooked or something. Then, he told me about kinds of players that will never improve their games even if they play for 6 years non-stop...because they are too stubborn or they are not trying enough to correct their mistakes eventhough at first glance, they look like skilled players.

We continued the conversation while watching a game of 9 ball on RDS channel(Reseau des Sport) and he was pinpointing the emotions of the players when they miss a shot...like the world was about to crumble because at that level of playing you miss a shot, you lose a rack..which can be very discouraging.

All that talk about pool and day to day life and how they interfere with each other got me inspired. Its like I began to see pool differently and that made me want to practice even more and play better. I got back to play against my friends and maybe its a coincidence but I saw my playing getting better right away....I guess inspiration is always a good thing.

I like to inspire myself the same way...by thinking and talking more about the big picture. Do you think it will "stick?"
