Ive not been playing all that much during this summer but now I have 1 month to get ready for a big tourney. My plan is to practice at least 2 hours a day. Theres also weekly handicap tournaments that I can play in in order to fine tune my game for the big tourney. Besides the regular practice and drills, what other things do you do to get ready for a big event?

As you've noted, practicing and competing between now and the big tournament are the key, but there are other things you can do.

1) Build your stamina. This can be done through exercise.

2) Watch Accu-stats or televised pool to study the play. Chess players recognize that studying the great matches of the past is fundamental to playing at a high level, but far too few pool players understand this.

3) Take a lesson with a pro just to make sure your fundamentals are in proper order. Before a tournament is not the right time to make major changes in your fundamentals, but it's OK to do some fine tuning.

4) Read books and articles on pool to increase your knowledge.

Hope this helps.

Also do some drills .On the shots u miss.and don't push your self to hard .u can get burnt out..

Dont eat two hours before your match! ...your blood wont be in the right part of your body!
I like to practice hard up until about 4 hours prior to my match then cool off a bit, I seem to shoot better than if I practice nonstop right up until I play.
Practice winning. What I mean is play the ghost and only try to run every time.
Puts you in the right mindset.
