Finally got my son (16 years old) interested in this great game.

We have had a pool table in the garage for about a year now and up until two days ago he has shown zero interest.

However, while I was out practicing on Monday, he came out with one of the "extra" cues and wanted to shoot. We played several games of 9-ball, however, I could not shoot the balls straight into the pockets. I had to either bank, kick, carom, or combo them in. This made for a great practice session for me, a great learning experience for him, and an overall great time for both of us.

Afterwards, I showed him several different things that I have learned.

The next day I was happy to see that he retained the info and put it to good use. He ended up winning a few games, where as the day before he had not won any.

Here's to what I hope is a great start to him enjoying this game!

My son and I play whenever we get together. He's 47 now. When he was 8 and his brother was 6 I bought a cheap pool table for Christmas. Both boys loved playing on it. Two years later I ran across an old 1922 nine foot Brunswick which we refurbished. Pool is a great game and I enjoy playing. So do my boys. Good luck to you and your son.

For me, there has been no greater joy than sharing my love of sports with my offspring. Watching them grow and learn is the best, especially when they start beating you at your own game. I have two sons that kick my butt at disc golf that I used to take them out to play. Wait till you get to play with your grandson (my oldest one hangs at the bar and is playing league)! It's awesome!

Great story, Lawrence.

Get him into some lessons with a good instructor and he won't have to overcome those bad habits like the rest of us suffer with.

He's a clean slate at this point.

Have fun!
