I don't need two playing cues. I carry my cue a jump/break, and her cue. My case has the room for it, and I don't think an extra 19oz is going to make it too much of an inconvenience. Besides I could just take her cue out when I know I don't need it. Another reason I carry her cue is because she just doesn't want to.

Ditto.

I normally carry a good 3x6 case with my spare player (i.e., wife's cue) and I'm good to go anywhere with a friend.

But, when I walk to the local pub and back (or go alone to a new place I don't know much about) I switch to a light weight crappy looking used 2x4 case I picked up cheap and take only my player and jump/break cue. And, I leave all the other usual paraphernalia (tip tools, cue extension, ...) in my good case except for a cue ball, q-wiz and extra cube of chalk.

Oh i see! I forgot most my non pool hall friends dont have cues. Damn i thought i was complete with my cues i have already. I guess gotta spend more of the dollar dollar bills :/!
Good thing i bought a wave case that conveinently converts to a 3x4 c:!

Find out if she has a competitive streak or not before you let her win. If she has one and is the determined sort, beat her as bad as possible so she'll want to learn how to play better to get even with you.

Excellent advice. This is what got me into the sport. I'm competitive and don't want anyone giving me a game (although I'm sure it happens). I want to get good enough to win some games against good shooters. Anyone who helps me get there is a friend indeed.

The best way to tell how she really feels is to ask. I know, what's that.......communication? She'll tell you how she wants to shoot on a regular basis (with you, on her own, with her friends, with your friends, with that inane picture of the dogs shooting pool or playing poker), and then you'll know if you should keep your friends closer or take your own playing up a notch or two.

I don't think I would like someone else picking out my cue/case for me. It's personal. Take her shopping, offer advice, but let her choose.

Oh, and avoid making comments like, "I was in a tournament last week and I got beaten by a GIRL".......unless you want your testicles served to you on a plate Lorena-style.

I don't presume to know what has motivated your GF to take up pool, nor do I presume to know what her future behavior may be. My advice would be to simply ask her. Your probably astute enough to determine whether or not your getting a straight answer. If she comes across as being genuinely interested then expose her to as much pool as possible. Rather than spend hard earned money on a cue she has yet to learn to use properly.....invest in a quality lesson or two from one of the many good instructors here. You would both benefit from this and it would also be a good indicator of just how serious she is about learning the game. If she is an avid listener and willing to devote her free time to practicing what she was taught......then her interest is genuine and a cue may be the next order of business......jmho......Dan
