Gilbert cues play great! I sold my Gilbert to buy a Skip Weston, but I definitely want another Gilbert! If you go to www.cueaddicts.com they have some less expensive Gilberts.

I don't know if my opinion carries any more weight than the next but... Andy Gilbert is one of my favorite cue makers, his cues are "worth it" whatever that means, and they "play great" whatever that means. I also don't know what "not looking to spend too much" means. Under a million dollars?

There was an article on Andy Gilbert in InsidePOOL. I think it was July/August 2004.

Fred <~~~ knows the author personally.

Andy is one of the finest cuemakers I have dealt with. I played with one of his flat face ivory jointed cues when someone local was selling one and I liked the feel alot. The cue was sold but kept Andy in mind when I got a Willie Hoppe cue that I wanted converted. Like most old Hoppe cues the Butt was thick. I sent the cue to Andy and asked him taper the butt (keeping the full splice) do some small Abalone inlays, add a 3/8-10 Ivory joint and make a shaft.

Well the cue came back two months later and the hit was identical to the one I tested.

My personal opinion on pool cues is that you have to take an opportunity to hit a few balls and know what you are looking for before you make a purchase. Peoples opinions are just that. The only thing you can be assured of iwhen it comes to Gilbert cues is that Andy stands behind his product and makes a quality cue.

I've been also thinking to buy a Gilbert cue. No cues around here in Europe to hit a few balls with them so it's difficult to trust that the cue will hit great, because the hit is a matter of personal taste.

Can you be more specific, is the hit stiff ? Is it Schon-type hard hit or a little bit softer (the difference between SS joint and ivory joint ?). Good vibrations to butt area hand or dampened vibrations ?
