Just wanted to throw a big high 5 out to ginky and to welcome him back to the trenches. Great showing in Rhode Island......................mike

Great win for Ginky! I really hope he's back for good, a lot of people don't realize just how good he was in the late 90's. In something like a 12 month period from '98 to '99 he won 4 big pro events: A stop on the 10-ball Camel Tour, The Derby City 9-ball, The BCA event, and the 1999 National 14.1 Event. He was deadly back then, I don't think anybody wanted to draw him in a tournament.

He's definitely still got it, Hopkins was shooting absolutely lights out and San Souci got by him. I heard that although he dropped out of tournament play for awhile he continued to play big money matches, can anyone confirm that?

Ginky is now a three time winner of this Ocean State event.., he won back in 1994 and 1995.., he looks good and shot strong.., when I asked him if he was playing more now with the IPT events coming, he said that he was playing everyday and was also looking forward to competing in the upcoming Turning Stone Classic VI in February.

Check out http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.cfm?storynum=3337 for coverage of this past weekend's Ocean State Championship event.

Ginky is no stranger to winning pool tournaments, but he did take a small hiatus from the mainstream pool tournament trail. This is the THIRD time he's won the Ocean State Championship at Snookers in Providence, Rhode Island.

BTW, I asked Ginky about the spelling of his last name since I have seen it spelled two different ways: "Sansouci" (one word) and "San Souci" (two words). He said that the French way to spell his last name is two words, but that he spells it as one word.

When he arrived Sunday morning to prepare for the second day of the event, he was practicing alone, deep in thought. When the other players arrived to practice, Ginky got another rack of balls and moved himself to a more private table in the back of the pool room. He was a man on a mission. When he came up against Joe Tucker in the winners' bracket, it just seemed like Ginky wasn't making any mistakes, defeating him 9 to zero. It wasn't that Joe played bad. He just never got a chance at the table very much during the set.

Great win for the Ginkster, and I look forward to seeing him at the upcoming Joss Tour Turning Stone Casino event, February 16-19, 2006.

One thing I have observed on the Joss Tour is the comradery between not only the players, but the pool room owners who host some of the events.

At the Ocean State Championship this past weekend, Pete Genovese who owns Ultimate Billiards in Berlin, CT came to play, and as I remember, he did quite well. Pete also competes in the U.S. Open and other high-profile tournaments. His pool room is state-of-the-art and is an excellent place to host a tournament.

Mark who used to own Renaissance Billiards in Quincy, MA, another Joss Tour stop before it was sold, also showed up for the festivities this past weekend.

The owner of Country Club Billiards in Chelmsford, MA, also came to watch this event on day two. Country Club will be hosting an IPT qualifier on February 24-26, 2006, and quite a few folks were talking about entering this one. He said that he has recovered his tables with the slower cloth, to meet the IPT specs. I have been to this room several times, and it's a beauty, excellent menu, bleacher seats, full bar, and a nice place to just relax and enjoy pool at its finest.

And then there is Dana Bufalo who assists Joss Tour TD Mike Zuglan from time to time. He helps keep the charts moving swiftly and ALWAYS with a smile on his face. Dana will also be at the $25,000-added Turning Stone Casino event coming up in a few short weeks. Dana is quite knowledgeable about the players, and the Joss Tour regulars have come to appreciate his calming influence on what can be a somewhat hectic tournament schedule. He goes out of his way to make sure each player is kept abreast of the tournament schedule and accommodates them as best he can. Big round of applause for Dana, shown below posing with Keith at another Joss Tour event last year.

The 17th Annual Ocean State Championship is a banner tournament, which means that the winner will have their name on a banner which will be in full display at Snookers.

Here's a snapshot of some of the Ocean State Championship banners hanging above the pool tables at Snookers in Providence, RI. Notice Tony Robles won the 1993 Ocean State, and there's one of Ginky's banners hanging over the second table for the year 1994. Just 12 years ago, Ginky won this event, and he's still in tip-top shape on a field of green. Great win for George Sansouci!

It is people like Steve and Regina Goulding who continue to host great pool events on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, and their hard work and dedication is very much appreciated.

Throughout this past weekend, Regina and Steve were milling around with the crowds, making sure everybody was comfortable and had everything they needed. It was a festive atmosphere. They ran out of Regina's homemade meatballs Sunday evening, but I managed to get me some on Saturday. YUMMIE! :p

Here's a great shot of Third-Place Finisher and Snookers Resident Pro Joe Tucker, Regina Goulding, Steve Goulding, the winner George "Ginky" Sansousi, and Runner-Up Allen Hopkins, each holding their beautiful keepsake trophies.

What a GREAT tournament! If you haven't had a chance to visit Snookers lately, I would strongly recommend visiting this pool room if you're in the vicinity. It is absolutely gorgeous, and it is like no other room I've ever seen on the tournament trail. Steve Goulding recently renovated the place, and it is worth the visit just to see what a pool room should look like. Wish we had a room like Snookers in my area!

It can't go without saying that Mike Zuglan is the man responsible for keeping the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour running strong.

Mike Zuglan is not only the tour director, but he's a strong player. By his own admission this past weekend, he said he hadn't picked up a stick in over a month. Yet, when he faced my horse in the very first round, he didn't miss too many balls and kept Keith on his toes.

Needless to say, I was like a cat with a long tail in a room full of rocking chairs during the first round. The race-to-9 went back and forth, resulting in a hill-hill between Zuglan and McCready. Keith looked as if he was going to snatch the win as he was aiming for the 8-ball, a fairly easy cut shot in the corner pocket. He fired it in with authority and MISSED. I thought Mike's eyeballs were going to pop out of his head as he ran up to the table and ran out the two remaining balls. Keith is still having nightmares about that 8-ball miss. Each time Mike and Keith face off, it is always a battle, and this time Mike Zuglan came out on top.

Here's a picture of George Sansouci, Snookers owner Steve Goulding, and Joss TD Mike Zuglan.
