Giving weight in 8 ball

When I play my sons, I have to play Odd/Even... and they don't. That's their handicap.

That sounds like an interesting game.

Here's another exercise /spot that's good for mismatched 8-ball players. The better player must declare at the start of his inning that he IS or ISN'T going for the out.

If he says YES (he IS going for the out) and he misses, he loses the game. If he says NO, then he cannot finish the game that inning.

I have seen players take balls off the table but at the end of the game. It's pretty tough if the player getting spotted knows the stradegy of keeping the balls on the table that are causing the spotter a problem til the end-clusters (even if they are covering up the 8 ball). Once the number of balls they need to make have been pocketed, the 1, 2 or 3 balls they get to pick up, are then lifted before the 8 ball is shot so if they have been covering up the 8 for your opponent, they will no longer be covering up the 8 for your winning shot.

Anyone else see or play this way?
I gave a spot like that to a guy that I could give two balls playing nineball, but I lost playing eightball. He knew how to work it.

This is how i give weight on 8 ball...

Depending if they are good or not, i tell them to pick 2 numbers for solids and stripes. For example... if the guy picks the 3 and 5 for solids... and 9 and 13 for stripes. Say i break and make a stripe in... so then the guy would be solids, i would take out the 3 and the 5 ball from the table and continue playing 8 ball. that's how i give weight in 8 ball.
