Glad for Rebecca Zhou - she needed help

Hi Everyone,

Just want to send a little shout out that although I always pull for a Hunter Classics Tour regular to win a Hunter Classics event, I'm glad Rebecca Zhou won it this past weekend. Rebecca (Meng Meng) Zhou won the 2004 Junior World Championship and this was her third WPBA qualifier try in America (second one on our tour).

The reason I'm glad she won is because on Friday night, her and her interpretor were robbed at gunpoint outside their hotel room and they had about 3K on them. The Hunter Tour started a collection for them on Saturday morning and raised about $250, but the win ($750 for first place) was also nice for her. She also won a spot in the WPBA Florida event in June.

Evidently, possibly the same robber(s) held someone up outside the pool room (right down the street from their hotel) about 4 hours earlier, so maybe it was a crime spree that night or something. We hear it isn't a bad side of Houston (we were at Bogies Billiards). It was so sad to hear she had a gun to her head and was robbed of all her money and the interpretor's money - I don't know how she focused for the event the next day, but she went undefeated and ended up winning the event on Sunday. Her interpretor told us she tried to kick the guy, but he told her to stop and just give him the money.

Congrats to Rebecca!

It was a very lucky that they only took her money! She fortunately did not have her cue or possessions taken as well.

It was good to see her win after something that terrible happening to them. It was also nice to see the generosity of all the Hunter girls that were able to help them out, kudos to them as well! :o

The Hunter Tour rocks!

I am sorry for Meng Meng's situation but I am proud to see (again) the way the Hunter tour girls step up and band together to help one of the pool community! There is good reason for your tour's success!

Excellent Job, Rebecca!

I was glad to hear that you won the tournament. Yes, indeed, it was an unfortunate incident and thankful that you and Robert were not harmed. The fact that you persisted and were able to keep your focus on your game playing is truly amazing. Your spirit was not diminished by any means. You are truly a fighter and I commend and applaud you for your tenacity and determination. We hope to see you and Robert back on future tour stops.

And to all the Hunter tour ladies, fans and family, more and more I recognize why I play on this tour. You are all the best and I am so proud to know each and every one of you. Forever a fan, tour member, and friend.

Always,
Moni Moni :D

What a compliment! Thanks! And, thanks to the ladies who not only came up with the idea, but who didn't hesitate one second to contribute to the fund.

Wow Melinda! That was really nice of you and the Hunter Tour to do that!!

I guess she's on a "tour hopping" trip since she just missed winning the BCA Q from my tour on April14th/15th.

I hope the perp is caught and put away. Thank God her cue wasn't stolen from her, too. What a sad thing to happen to two perfectly innocent foreigners visiting our country.

Careful ....

What part of Houston is Bogie's in? I use to live there and went to college there, and would go down to the nortorius Telephone Road to hustle Pool.

I matched up in a bar there once, and we each had a friend with us. When I was winning, $400 total, his friend enticed my friend out into the parking lot, and robbed him of $175. They had this planned because after a bathroom break, my player was gone, and screeched out of the parking lot making their getaway after robbing my friend. I was damn mad, especially when I found out the other guy used a knife and not a gun. Mike and I were both poor college students at the University of Houston at the time, and all I was getting for my GI bill at the time was $175 a month.

I gave Mike $200, half of what I had won, and we called it a night.

Bogie's is up on the north side near the large international airport...I think the road it is on is 1960. It's a nice room. I think it sucks that the girl and her interpreter were robbed.
