Tom Gearhart and Tom Elder are pleased to announce the dates of the 2004 Glass City Open. This event will take place starting Wednesday November 10 through Sunday November 14, 2004 in the beautiful grand ballroom of the Clarion Hotel Westgate, in Toledo, Ohio. 128 of the world's best 9-ball players, talented up-and-coming young guns, local hotshots, and average pool players who want to test their mettle against the best, will try to carve out their share of the guaranteed $40,000 purse playing in front of historic nightly sell-out crowds. Veteran tournament director, Scott Smith, will again head up the tournament direction.
The 2004 Glass City Open is one of the few top tournament stops that feature the best 9-ballers in the world playing against any player that can pay the entry fee. This distinction gives the average-joe pool player, who can only dream of playing against their heroes, a chance to play in the “big show” for only $250 ($300 after November 1st).
Spectators will again be able to play against their favorite pro-player in the “Beat-The-Champ” charity exhibition, located in the main lobby of the hotel. Fans that pay $5.00, or more, to play a game of either 8-ball or 9-ball with a pro….. and beat them , will receive a an autographed t-shirt that reads “I beat a world champion 9-ball player at the Glass City Open!”. All proceeds go to the ‘Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind. Over $7,000 has been raised at the last two Glass City Opens.
The 8-ball team event, a weekend tournament, that plays along side the pro event, will be open to all handicapped league players. This triple-elimination, 5-person, team tournament will give each league player a week-long pass to see the Glass City Open, entry into the 8-ball team event, two rooms for their team at the Clarion Hotel Friday and Saturday night, an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on Saturday morning, a raffle ticket on a $400 cue, and a crack at over $18,000 in prize money for only $159 per player. The tournament is limited to 64 teams.
Brady Behrman, from PoolSites.net, has designed the Glass City Open's award-winning website and it has become the first billiard tournament site that can register players for the pro and amateur event, let fans buy their passes and tournament mementos, have vendors secure their booths, and lets all book their onsite hotel lodging with a credit card. This years registration will start April 2, 2004 by going online at www.GlassCityOpen.com. Diamond Billiard Products, Inc. will again be on board as the official table sponsor providing the Diamond Smart Tables for the pro event.
