BCn Will Broadcast Glass City Open on Toledo Cable Sports Network
Buckeye Cable Sports Network To Assist in Production
Billiard Club network (BCn) and Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN), a Toledo, Ohio sports network on Buckeye CableSystem, Inc. have reached an agreement to co-produce and broadcast the 2004 Glass City Open scheduled for November 10th – 14th in the ballroom of the Clarion Hotel Westgate in Toledo, Ohio. 36 hours of BCSN broadcast time will be dedicated to the event in the weeks following the tournament.
BCSN has agreed to broadcast the final three matches of the event in their entirety to their 150,000 cable customers. Each two-hour program will be aired three times within two weeks following the event and another three times during the holiday season, for a total of 36 hours of broadcast time in the greater Toledo region.
BCn will also distribute the programs nationwide to the 5 regional networks that carry BCn programming. BCn is also considering an Internet distribution of the event online at www.billiardclub.net.
The 2004 Glass City Open is one of the largest independently produced pro 9-Ball tournaments. 128 pros will compete along side of 500 amateurs in the weeklong event.
Glass City Open promoters Tom Gearhart and Tom Elder resurrected the event after it went dormant in 1993. "This is very exciting and great news for the Glass City Open," said Tom Gearhart. "We have a great tournament here in Toledo and now the city and the rest of the country will get a chance to see what players and spectators have been raving about for the past couple of years."
Additionally, an APA members only amateur team event will also take place. Organizers are hoping to play the amateur championship match under the TV lights and cameras as well and then broadcast it on BCSN.
Buckeye Cable Sports Network is a locally produced sports network with a full focus on the community and is dedicated to creating a vibrant, local sports broadcast presence in the area exclusively for Buckeye CableSystem viewers.
"This is our first production of this type, but we’re very excited because it provides us with something unique and different from our normal local sports programming," said Nancy Duwve, Director and General Manager of BCSN. "With BCn’s expertise and experience, we believe this event will add great value to our network."
As part of the deal, BCSN has agreed to dedicate weekly broadcast time to BCn’s other events, such as the Derby City Classic and U S Open 9-Ball. These programs will air at scheduled time slots weekly, which follows BCn’s policy to create consistent viewing patterns for the viewer.
Diamond Tables has signed on as the Official Table Sponsor of the event and Simonis is the Official Cloth. Quick-Clean Pool and Billiard Table Cleaner is also a sponsor. Other equipment and sponsorship positions are available. Interested companies and sponsors are asked to contact BCn for more information.
