Glenn Bonds pool cue

Does anyone know what kind of pool cue Glenn Bonds use on the video "Glenn Bonds Drill 18"? All my life I have tried to get the action on a cue ball that he gets in this video. It can be seen at www.azbtv.com select Instructional. Thanks any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I not shure what cue Glenn uses but the shot #18 your have referenced has more to do with your stoke than the cue. To execute this shoot you must have a good follow thru. IMHO

I would say it is most likely the Indian. Not the arrow! JMHO

Stroke shots like these require maximum tip offset. The avg or even above avg player never strikes the cue ball with enough offset.

They may think they do but due to lack of accuracy they don't. You'll notice how the c/b bends after leaving the long rail towards the bottom rail. This shot takes extreme top left english. Without a lot of top the c/b path would be towards the top left corner. The cue has nothing to do with making this shot.

Oh contraire my friends lets not place the blame on the stroke. The shaft, taper, joint and type of wood have a lot more to do with it than the stroke. I am not saying that the stroke has nothing to do with because it does (some) but the action he is getting on this shot is more stick than stroke. At present time I use a Lucasi with a Uniloc the shaft has been modified several times and now has a 14 in pro taper at 11.60 dia., 1 1/4 length ferrule with an Elk Master tip. I have in my arsenal a Predator 314 and OB1 shaft and IMHO all are much to stiff to give me this kind of action. I have stroked many a cue ball top, buttom, left, right, inside and out and have never got the cue ball to behave like he does so I am not buying that stroke business.

Chi2dxa,

I respectfully disagree with you. The cue/shaft/tip is very important, but the STROKE is what makes this shot happen........

Russ........

I agree with the other posters that the cue has very little to do with the action he gets on the shot, and that Glenn (or anyone with a halfway decent stroke) could shoot that shot with any of the cues you currently have. To answer your question, I think Glenn was being sponsored by Scott Whisler when these videos were shot, so it very well may have been a Whisler. If you can't execute basic stroke shots like this, you need some practice or some lessons, not a new cue or shaft.

Plan and simple, this is a stroke shot. If anything on a cue has an effect it would be the condition of the tip.

There is no such thing as a magic stick. No cue, be it custom or production is going to make you shot better. It all boils down to the mechanics of your stroke.

A 14" pro taper @ 11.60 diameter is a limp noodle. Sorry bud that is not even close to being stiff. Besides, what difference does that make = it doesn't. I can make those shots, so can any good player and my shaft is 13+ with a conical taper.

You have to hit the c/b with max offset and you're not. No magic bullets in this game, sorry.

You don't have to buy it, but there's nothing special about Glenn's cue. He isn't using that cue anymore. He uses a Schon now. I don't remember what that cue was.

Also, the age of the cloth would be more of a deciding factor in the ease of the shot than the type of cue. By the look of it, the cloth on this table seems pretty new. On older cloth, he might have had to hit it a little harder to get that action.

I actually know Glenn (as I'm sure some other posters here do as well) and I can tell you from first hand experience that Glenn's mechanics are near flawless. Hence, why he is such a good instructor. He could have shot that shot with a 50 dollar Players cue and it wouldn't have made a difference.

In case you weren't aware, Glenn is a very accomplished player and was a member of the Camel Pro Tour just before it disbanded ('98 or '99 timeframe).

So, I agree with every other post in this thread and respectfully disagree with your opinion. The cue has almost nothing to do with how well he executes this shot. It is the person holding the cue.

Jimmy M.'s comment about the cloth also has a lot of merit. Newer cloth always takes english better then older, worn out cloth (especially if the cloth is brand new... which would not suprise me if Glenn recorded these instructionals on a newly recovered table).

I'm more interested in the way Glenn takes off walking out of the camera's view before the balls are done rolling on many of his shots. Does this guy watch CSI: Miami? Are we witnessing the David Caruso of pool here?

Spoof on David Caruso

Nice bow you got there Tonto. Bet you don't have any problems making that shot. Try it with a mop handle and get back to me.

Can I get a translation? Anyone?

I'm a bit confused myself...... that's why I just deleted my last post.

BTW, next time I see Glenn, I have to tell him about the David Caruso bit. Too funny!!!
