Glove recommendations?

So I suffer from Sweaty Palm Syndrome... my hands sweat, moisture gets on my cues, collecting dirt and it's a huge PITA keeping them clean. So a few weeks back I picked up a glove.

Trouble is, this glove is pretty damn cheap - the seam on the flippin-off finger is already coming out, and the material is something synthetic, and what with my hand still sweating and the glove getting damp/drying out/getting damp/drying out (still staying dry enough in the shaft contact area though, whew), it's getting kinda gamey. What with the seam already coming out, I fear washing it would just destroy it, and aside from that, the material doesn't strike me as likely to hold up to a wash anyhow.

So I'm asking you folks - what glove would you folks recommend to pick up as a replacement? Preferably one that's washable in some fashion and decent construction (i.e. won't fall apart in a week or two).

No Michael Jackson comments, please. I get enough of those as it is. :) Though it is sweet to play in a local tournament, get MJ cracks made (in jest, of course) at me all night, and end up winning the whole thing in the end... :D

I have the same problem. Very much a PITA for pool. I have used the normal stretchy material Sir Joseph gloves for years.
I wash them after a coupl hours of use in the sink with dishwashing liquid and lay flat to dry. They will last a long time.
I have about six that I will cycle through.

I have two other Sir Joseph gloves that are my favorite that I can't find anymore. They have a velcro flap closure and are not a stretchy material. They are more slick and I think play better.
I have not been able to find these anymore.

You could wear two gloves, so nobody gives you that MJ cracks all night.:D

J/K. Lots of guys here wear gloves, I am sure someone will point a glove fingered hand in the right direction.

A Sir Joseph glove they say is the best if you gotta use one.

you could try holding a pair of panties in the bridge hand. Just let it glide through that purty cotton. oohhh yeaahhh!!

Does that mean that there is no way to ask you contact him and ask his recommendations in this glove issue:p

(and then about gloves; in many sports actually only items that really fit are handmade. Do some google and see if you can find good glove makers close your area and talk with them.)

This one here, perhaps?

That is the one I was talking about. Thank you ScottW.
I like the feel of these better than the stretchy ones.
I will bookmark the link...

Woot! I ask for help and end up helping others. Tee hee.

I just ordered a pair of those, so I'll see how well it works in a few days (ordered ground). I figured I'd get two, so I could have a spare when time comes to wash one and let it sit.

In the summer, and in humid conditions, I use the SLIX glove which is now discontinued. It feature the grip palm surface found on bicylcist gloves. It also has the very tips of the fingers cut off. That eliminates the issue of the finger web getting in the way of the cue (if your fingers are too long or fat for the glove size).

If I can recommend anything, I'd recommend to cut the very tips of the fingers off. Not too much, as the glove will be rendered useless if the glove creeps below the top knuckle.

Funny how things work out - I find my favorite gloves again and hopefully they work out well for you.

BTW - what did you have before that were falling apart?

I currently have a Felice glove. I was fine to start with 'til it started falling apart and getting grungy. It still works fine as best I can tell - I just don't see it lasting terribly long.

Funny thing is, those gloves you mentioned that I ordered from Mueller's were cheaper than this glove I bought from a nearby shop. :P

Scott, The best I have found nad yes I have tried just about all of them, is the glove put out by Nick Varner. It has the finger tips cut out so you can feel the cloth and has a leather reinforced plam pad as well.

alternative to glove?

i saw this in a catalogue and wondered if it would work for sweaty- handed poolplayers. interested to hear if anyone's tried it:

www.timeformecatalog.com/cgi-bin/timeforme/postkey_find.html?stateInfo=lcblpaaEjISaYaia2648|7&keywords=90566&mode=

Dry Touch™ Hands and Feet
Keep Sweaty Hands and Feet Dry

Dry up perspiration-soaked hands and feet with this fast-acting solution! Simply apply a few drops onto clean hands and feet and rub evenly across skin. Clinically proven formula provides an instant barrier against moisture for up to 5 hours. Non-sticky, non-greasy. Over 40 applications per bottle. .5 oz. $10.

I have not heard of that one, but I have tried Drygrip for sports, and it didn't work well for me. Had a clay feeling to it and would have made a mess of the table.

Drysol is an antiperspirant liquid that some have had luck with.

Hmm, may have to check that out. Have to see if I can find it at a Walgreen's or something... I'd really rather NOT resort to using a glove, if I can.

And while on the subject... there's another related product that is just amazing for dealing with overly sweaty underarms. It's called "Certain Dri" - it comes in a little roll-on applicator like for deodorant - but you use it at night just before bed. I would always have soaked armpits on my shirts - this stuff is the bomb! And you can get it at Walgreen's or other stores like it. I can't rave about this stuff enough.

Oh yeah, and about painful rectal itch... oh wait. :P

Is it somewhere on his site? If he has something similar to the SLIX glove, that would be nice.

Hey Cornerman,
I may have some slix gloves at my business if you're still in the market. I knew the guy who designed and manufactured them so I bought them way back when. Tell me what size you need and whether you need to wear it on your right or left hand--I know I have a couple I just don't know if they'll fit you. I'll check tomorrow.

Ther used to be a guy in So. Cal who made an excellent glove. The glove was called Blackman. The guy moved to Henderson, NV and I haven't seen his glove since. The glove was slick and durable. Anybody hear of him?
