I know this will sound SOOOO silly, but i just have to ask it anyway :sorry:

I bought a Kamui soft tip from a friend, and was going to instill it yesterday.
When i was moving the botom of the tip over grid paper, i didn't held the tip perfectly , and now the botom isn't flat anymore. (on the other side i didnt get the fibers very loose either :s. should i forget about this next time i'm installing a new tip? Now i'm wondering.

As the upperside is still perfectly flat, should i glue it upside down? Is there really a difference? Arent't they all equal layers glued exactly the same way from top to bottom?

Or should i trow it away and spend another 20$ on a new tip :s

just cut a layer off from the bottom of the tip and use what is remaining...it's more than enough.

I've installed many tips and I firmly believe that it doesn't matter on which side you glue them on.
So I'd just glue it "upside down".
Well heck, I usually pick the side at random anyways :p !

Just carefully sand the bottom layer untill you get it parrellel with the other layers. It won't take much, just be carefull and not in a hurry.
If you put too much pressure on front or back etc, it will sand more on that side. This is a good opertunity to learn and make it right.
Sometimes you get tips where the bottom layer is not quite right anyway. After this , you will be able to cope if the situation arises again.

??????????

If you can't sand the back without messing it up.....I'd say send it out an have it installed. Trimming an shapeing are much more difficult than sanding....Nothing plays worse than a 13mm ferrule an a 12 an 1/2mm tip.Hope this helps............

Jule is correct...upside down is fine. It only needs to be LIGHTLY scuffed. For best results do as Searing & I....let a thin layer of CA soak in until dry then scuff LIGHTLY. This forms sort of a primer base and prevents too much of the CA from soaking into the tip and possibly causing a weak bond. Even better yet....use Gorilla glue & just dampen the tip surface first with H20.

thanks for the reply's

I tried to cut of one layer to get it straight again but was to hard to get it perfect. . anyway i always take off a layer or 2 to get the right height.

Installed the tip upsidedown and works like a charm.

I could let someone do it, but trust me, where i live i'm better of letting a child do it. Last time someone advised me to let him put a tip on, my heart broke...
luckily he put a new tip on his shaft first, and after seeing it, i didnt let him touch me cue ever again.

he used a pencil sharper to get the tip from 14m to 13m, and believe it or not... he took a whole chuck out of his ferule, and his tip was way to much beveled. Horrible horrible story!

Belgium isn't exactly the best country to find a good cuemaker :) I think there is only one... and i don't know his name or adress, and i needed a new tip soon.

i think ive read enough post to do it correctly , just used to much presure as i was using a to high grid paper and wasn't patient enough to wait till i bought better grid.

here is my first reverse self-installed tip :D

material: a blade, gridpaper, printingpaper, some spit, and glue.

i give it a 7/10. there is a 0.3mm gap in between the ferule and the tip. :embarrassed2: not sure if its because they weren't 100% flat, or if it is the glue and how to do it better next time... ive played some powershots with it and it looks allright. I didn't notice gap till after taking the picture. its to small for my eyes to see it.

(ps im not a cuemaker :grin-square: )
