going back to el cheapo cues

Tonight I stuck my predator in the closet and pulled out an imperial sneaky Pete I bought brand new for 20.00 5 years ago to take to league tonight. I played better with it than I was with any of my other cues. Won 8 ball 4-1 vs another 5 who was shooting with a revo.

So .....i decided to go with an el cheapo break cue tonight and picked up a.....hell I dint know what brand it is. No name on it but its a new sneaky Pete I bought at the pool hall for 79.00.

The reason I picked it up is because I guess I am still searching for that magic wand that will improve my 9 ball break. My 9 ball break literally sucks but I guess it has a lot to do with my disabled hand.

I have went through several break cues over the years. I would have to say the best one was an old viking I put a buffalo tip on then it got broke.....not by me. Found it broke laying on the pool table when I got home from work one day. Of course every one there denied they did it.

Then I bought an Alex brick dymond wood jump break. Really no improvement over the Viking. So after a few years I got rid of it and bought a bk 3. Kept it a few years....got rid of it and bought a gulyassy sledge hammer. I have had it fir a while but think I should have kept the bk 3.

So the sledgehammer is going in the closet tonight and I am gonna see how this cheap cue does. I figure if I can play just as good with a cheap sneaky as I can with a predator I can break just as good with a cheap sneaky as I can with a gulyassy.

Believe me....i have practiced my 9 ball break a bunch....from all sorts of positions on the table and I aint lying when I say I have a girl that's a 3 with a better break than I have. Actually I have the worst break of any one in the team. My 8 ball break works great for me. I have more 8 ball break and runs so far this year than I had all of last year.

I think that unless you’re the scientist that Corey Deuel is and you get to rack your own,
breaking can be a pretty chancey thing. The cue probably means little if you’re breaking
in league on a Valley. Almost nothing is predictable and all you can really control is the
cue ball, if something goes in just consider it a plus. I’ve just developed some things
that are comfortable for me and in general leave the cue ball in the middle-ish area of
the table. If these things don’t work, it’s a league match, I’ll always try something else.
I just wanna make at least one ball, I don’t really care how.

Just for reference, I break 8 and 9 ball the same and the goal is to always make the head ball,
It works about 60% of the time

I would be happy with your 60%. most often I have dry breaks and my opponent runs several balls. Second most is scratches....mostly another ball knocks the cue ball in. Third most is making a ball....seldom happens and hooked on the next. I have a 5 that consistently make 2 balls and most of the time has a decent shot. One if my 3's makes a ball every dang time.
