Gold Crown 5: Gully Return Yes or No?

Hi there

Time has come to upgrade the tables in our pool club! 4 Gold Crown 3's have to go and will be replaced by Gold Crown 5's :joyful:

None of the GCs we used had a ball return or gully return as they call it. Since we will buy the tables brand new, the questions has arisen whether to fit the talbes with gully return or not. None of us ever played on gully return GC 5's...

We are concerned about dirty balls, constant rolling noise in the club and that balls cud get stuck. What is your thoughts on that?

Furthermore, can anyone confirm that it is easily possible to "upgrade" a drop pocket GC5 to one with gully return?

I've never seen a GC5 with a ball return:eek:

from a mechanic point of view I would say no based on the ball box is a nightmare to work with.
 
Personally I like them.

Personally, I like them and installed them on about 75% of the last 14 Gold Crowns(1-4) I have done in the last 13 months. Can't wait to put one in on a Gold Crown 5!!!!!!

Nothing against drop pockets. I like a ball return. A little extra work'

I'd like to see if the Brunswick GC5 changed the mounting eyelets of the ball runs.

I agree about ball returns in general. I doubt that you would find noise or sticking balls a problem if they are set up correctly. They didn't make the opening into the ball box wide enough, though. You can barely slide your hands in and out holding 3 balls. That's going to be annoying for anyone that is used to ball return tables like Diamonds or older Gold Crowns.
 
thx for the answers so far. if anyone cud confirm that the gully return can be afterfitted without too much hassle, we cud go for it on one table. If we like it, upgrade the other tables....

A friend of mine told me that the pockets swallow certain balls not as well as the drop pockets do. Has anyone made the same experience?

our folks are very divided about this issue.

@realkingcobra: According to the brunswick site it exists. Though, I have never seen one myself in real life.

Gold Crown V

If you go to the Brunswick Billiards web-site, select Products tab and then Pool tables, find the Gold Crown V, and you will see an option icon in the upper left portion of the link that allows you to select either drop pockets or gulley return...!!!
