Gold Crown IV

fatboy is correct, huge markups and wide distribution means big profits for Bose, err, I mean Brunswick

nice to see they're sticking with the plastic/steel pocket coverings, and diarrhea brown chinese wood, hopefully they won't pass off south american slate as italian this time around

I think the fact that they are finally going to offer a "Pro" pocket option straight from the factory is very good news, it's only taken them 10 years to catch up to Diamond!

Other than IIRC one of selling points of the earlier GC models was that it was the only Brunswick table made wholly in the USA. Perhas now they are sourcing the parts from China and just finishing and assembling in the USA?

Brunswick hasn't made a decent home table in decades, nor a decent tournament table since the Gold Crown III

Brunswick has without a doubt the most interesting heritage of any billiards company but it's all down the crapper now imo

GC I - The Crown Jewel

I think they look very sleek. I like the rounded corner caps on the pockets and the slim look. But.....for $8K, I'll stick to my GCI.

You've got the CROWN JEWEL.
Lucky you.

What does everyone think of the soon to come Brunswick Gold Crown 5. I know it is hard to make a judgement based on pictures only, but at this time I am not sure if any of the retail outlets have received them yet.

I have the Title of this thread incorrect and do not know how to edit the Title.

I am Brunswick all the way. Started with a I. Went to a III and now have a IV and I believe the quality is very much still there. I love the old style look of the GC'S, always have. Give me a GC over a Diamond anyday! Just my opinion based on my years of GC experience. I'm sure the Diamonds are good tables but I have no reason to change. Now is a good time to look for a good deal on the GC IV's. Good Luck!

Gc

I think the new ones look okay but I think the 4 looks better. I had a 4 and liked it a lot. I sold it for a Gabriels and like it quite a bit more. I like the Diamond Pro Ams a lot too. Wish I could find someone with a 1 piece slate pro am, who was moving and couldn't fit it in the new house because of the 1 piece slate, to trade my Gabriels for. I like the one piece slate idea besides the fact that it's so heavy.

Brunswick Gold Crowns IV or V

Just to let you know (you might already know), Brunswick tables (new) are sold exclusively through retailers and the mark-up is rediculous. 8-9k is rediculous for a pool table in my opinion (unless antique maybe). You are always better off buying a used table, maybe a gold crown IV from a pool room or someone liquidating one. Billiard clubs like me can get brunswicks at at the same cost as the retailers $3500-$4000 and you could get a table in great shape from one of them maybe going out of business.

Diamond on the other hand, sells directly to the public. You can get a Diamond pro-am for the same price as I can. I recently bought one for my billiard club and turn-key (shipping, balls, diamond light, rack, setup, etc) I spent around $5800. Personally as a player I like the Diamond the best, for looks, durablility and playability.

But if money isn't an issue than it doesn't really matter, you probably would prefer a new brunswick over a used for the convienance. Either way both companies, Brunswick and Diamond, build there tables to last a lifetime. I have yet to see a Gold Crown IV in bad shape, or a Diamond Pro-Am.

Hope this helped, good luck.

3 piece ways just the same...only easier to move.

Of the new tables out there I believe that they all play exceptionally well. Given a choice between a new Gold Crown and a new Diamond I go with the Diamond. Given the choice between the same two table used I'd pick the GC. There are just so many more GC's available that makes the price difference huge between the two. Additionally, in my neck of the woods you can find mechanics experienced with GC's, not many have worked with Diamonds.

I own a 12 year old (it's still a baby) GCIII. I got it from a nearby pool hall that went out of business ten years ago. The 2nd year I owned it one of the rail rubbers went dead. Called Brunswick customer service and had a complete set on my doorstep within a week, no charge. That's customer service.

As a side note. I've assisted people in buying very old Brunswick tables. It is never a surprise when buying a Brunswick. They last more than a lifetime. My personal favorite is the Anniversary models. They have extremely quiet and fast runners and the rails are wider than a GC and flat.

Yeah, I know but a lot of people have trouble getting that one piece into a basement because of it's size. You almost have to have a walkout. The 3 piece you can get in anywhere.
