Gold Crown (metal?) apron panels.

I was lucky enough to recently buy a 1966 Gold Crown 1 in excellent shape. I just saw this photo in a Brunswick owners Facebook group and noticed the (what looks like metal but could just be the photo) panel with the two cutout holes attached all along the wooden side apron at right angles. Presumably this is to hide the ball return ‘tubes’. However, my GC1 doesn’t have these. Were they standard on all GC1s and mine is just missing them? There are screw holes in my aprons to suggest they were once attached. Did people remove them for a reason? Are they only on certain years? Are they metal? What are they called? Underskirts? Any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

Fiberglass and have been on every GCI I have seen. Could easily have been broken. There are seven individual pieces, the long sides are split in the middle, the head side is one piece, and there are two around the ball return on the foot end.
 
I've been around GC's all my life and don't think I've seen this in person either. When the skirt is on, do they cover the metal tracks, so if a ball gets stuck you are in trouble?

I vaguely recall my local room owner in the late 90's had some GC1's but they looked just like the GC3's next to them from underneath when balls got stuck. So I'm guessing he took them off?

No, you can still access the ball tracks wit the plastic skirts on.
 
Thanks for all your input. Luckily, I actually prefer the look of the table without the gully blinds. I think they rather spoil the elegant curved lines of a Gold Crown. I’m not sure I’d go as far as removing them if my table had them but I’m fine that it doesn’t.
 
So on the 2's and later that never had the gully blinds, were the side aprons wider to cover up the pocket basket?
