Gold Crown V pockets

I'm planning on a 9' Gold Crown V for my home. I'm interested in the tournament edition, but also want the table to be fun enough for everyone. Anyone here play on one of them and can share their experience? I've played on diamond pro cut pockets, and I enjoyed them, but I think they're too tight for recreational use (i.e., the other players in my household). However, my impression is that since the Diamond shelf is deeper, the GCV pockets at 4.5" would play easier than the Diamond pro cut. Does anyone know how big the pockets are on the regular (non-tournament) version? Is there any easy way (easy enough for me to do in an hour or two) to change between tighter and looser pockets? I would buy a whole separate set of rails, even though swapping them might be too complicated to do myself. Perhaps I will have to be content with those pocket reducers I've seen around here, just for practice.

Any ideas or advice are kindly appreciated.

if u do want the gold crown don't let just anyone set it up..find a mechanic in this neck of the web to set it up and cover the rails and bed...

The GCV tour edition is a great table with and awesome frame. I believe the V is the best of all the GC tables.
The 4.5 pockets play very fair, but still respectable. You won't need to buy extra rails for 5" pockets...all though
Brunswick does offer the sale. You can change the rail system yourself with no problems.

The Diamond pro with 4.5 will play a little harder when the cloth breaks in, and of course the slate shelf is deeper then a Brunswick.

Wow, Diamond or Brunswick.....wish we all had the problem of that choice...

Good luck....either table is a very good choice.

I got a Gold Crown V Tournament Edition last summer.

Next month, one of the AZ magic mechanics will be coming by to make it right. From Brunswick, the pockets on the head end are 1/8-inch bigger than those on the foot end. The side pockets vary by 1/8 inch at the point and 1/4 inch at the throat. Some of the pocket castings need to be fitted; the factory fit is unacceptable and hazardous to the finish on a cue. Additionally, the angles and facings will be changed to the same as the Diamond pro cut pockets.

Don't get the idea I don't like the table - it's great. Brunswick just has some serious problems with the quality control of the fit. When the changes are made, I expect to have as perfect a table as you can get.

As for playing: I went from an eight-foot table with five-inch pockets, and hadn't played on anything bigger in decades. The size of the table was the only thing that initially gave me problems (looked like the flight deck of the Valley Forge at first). The smaller pockets didn't present a problem, although the side pockets can be a nightmare.
My ten-year-old grandson came over and said, "Wow. That's a really big table." He then proceeded to drop balls like Johnny Archer. Sometimes I hate kids and their stupid little razor-sharp eyes.

The best thing you can do is to have one of the experts here set up the table, and you'll be satisfied.

Thanks, good to know I could change the rails on the Gold Crown myself.

I'd be pretty bummed if that's how my table was set up. I'm getting it from a well respected dealer in the NYC area. I'd be interested to know if yours gets made right. I've seen some of the pictures of the gold crown pocket liners and it's hard to believe Brunswick got it so completely wrong. Even after "fixing", some look like they don't quite fit.

I am very surprised to hear about the problems with your V. I have installed 3 of them and have not seen most of the problems you described. I have noticed the pocket inaccuracies you describe but I haven't assembled any tables with a casting issue. Do you have any pics? I am just curious, I was impressed with the changes Brunswick has made, if they only had better cushion and pocket tolerances.
