Need help...

Im looking for some feedback on Gold Crowns. Mainly, Gold Crown II's and the how they differentiate in style and playability from I's, III's, and IV's.

As far as the underneaths/mechanical designs etc..., the table mechanics would be better on answering those points of view. But as far as play ability, the GC IV is my personal favorite table of the bunch. I also love the flush pocket design on the IV. The rubber on the back/top of the pocket was a bit obtrusive to bridging etc... on the older models.

Actually, I would be one (of a few I guess) that prefers the GC IV over the Diamond tables. I agree much more with what goes in the pocket and what doesn't on the IV, as compared to the deep shelf design of the Diamonds (both tables having the same pocket sizing 4 1/2"). I see one no easier or tougher than the other though, just different.

One thing I do miss on the GC IV though is the counters on the end rail for Straight pool. I guess during the GC IV's production 9-Ball was king, and the counters were not needed as much as on older models (or so Brunswick thought). But I would give up counters any day for the flush pocket design of the IV.

All Gold Crowns are basically built on the same format for the most part, what differs though is the age of the tables. The older the GC, the more it's been worked on in the past, and it's THAT work that determines the playability of the tables, otherwise all GC'S when new play the same as far as I'm concerned, yet at the same time, they all have some kind of design flaw from Brunswick when the tables were built. I've said it before, there's no such thing as a bad GC, but there certainly is such a thing as abuse and neglect.

I thought the Gold Crowns did not have flush pockets until the GCV, are the GCIVs a similar shaped pocket casting to the older GCs or is it completely different like the GCV? I like all of the Gold Crowns, I have a GCII modified for current cushion profiles and tight pockets, the only thing I would even consider trading it for would be a GCV.

I was speaking of the black part of the pockets being flush with the top of the corner and side pocket castings. As in the below pic of a GC IV table.

BTW, that's certainly no deal breaker on any GC table. It is just a nice feature Brunswick finally came around to doing on the IV and then the V.
