Gold dot shaft ?

I recently purchased a Mike Sigel cue from a private seller and it has a gold dot on the shaft , It’s a great cue . It came with a case with his insignia on the case . I don’t know the age of the cue . The gold dot and what it represents is my question ? It’s maple and hits great so I figure it must a low deflection, but I could be wrong . Thank you

Where is the cue signed? If its signed down on the butt-cap its one he actually built. If its signed up on the forearm with an 'S' on the buttcap its an Asian import with his licensed autograph. No clue what the gold dot was for. Sounds like yours is the import model. Ok cues. Not worth much in used market.

Some people used to put a mark on their shafts, so that they could always rotate the cue and make sure the mark was pointing up when they took a shot. That way the cue had a consistent hit. Maybe that is what the gold dot is for.

How would the maker know where to put the dot on a maple shaft? Its just there for looks. Meucci put a black dot on that laminated shaft of his to show where the spine was.

I thought that the black dot represented the top of the cue, that is what some Meucci collector told me once...so who knows if that is legit or not?

I rotate my cue until I find out which orientation I think is the most desirable for me...in degree of stiffness, deflection, etc.

Then, I mark that orientation on my cue or look at some ’characteristic’ (wood spot, grain spot, inlay, etc,) that I can easily identify and let me recognize that orientation. After that, I always make sure to use the cue in that particular orientation.

On my Becue, I put a little white sticky label where the cue balance point is. That allows me to immediately grab my cue in the same grip spot and orientation every time.
