This guy was a little drunk but showed me what he called golf

Start with your ball at the spot, have to make it in the corner pocket in the headstring
Then after making it, it's spotted and you continue down the rail and around the table advancing the pocket when made in each pocket

Played with only his ball and my ball on the table

Anyone ever hear of this game?
Or is it some modified version

It's played on Snooker tables all over the USA-can have 4-5 players in a game. Denny searcy was the best i heard.

I enjoyed it, until the part about after so many fouls you start going back a pocket!

But I'll probably end up playing it more,

I have no idea what the official rules are but when I played with some friends a few times the rule was you started over from the beginning pocket after one foul.

I think Golf was in the BCA rule book at one time. Don't know about now, I haven't seen one in years. I think the rules vary from place to place like a lot of other not-well-known-games.

Tulsa tee times......................

Come to Magoo's in Tulsa,Ok. Golf is one of the main action games. Usually played for $5/man per game plus .$50/hickey(foul). When the better players go at it its usually $10/game and $1/foul. Heads-up games are often $50&$5 or $100&$10. Played on a VERY tight old 5x10 Brunswick covered with Granito 3c cloth. Nobody's barred so come on in.

I think that game came before the game played with 15 balls as we know it today....
There are some stone cold golf hustlers on the pool table.

Enjoy

Denny was a great player at all games but IMO and many others, the best American snooker player ever. He was simply a monster on the tight 6 x 12 in Bellflower.

They have two 6 x 12’s at CA Billiards in Fremont, CA. We play $20/2 or $30/3 rings games and higher heads up.

We have had some great ring games during some of the large tournaments Chris holds there during his added $$ events with players from all over the country joining in the golf game.

The official rules of Golf are in the BCA Rule Book but every pool hall you go to has their own rules. For whatever reason it is gaining popularity in my neck of the woods. I’m starting to like it better than snooker. You better be on top of your banking and kicking and safety play if you want to have a chance against the folks I play against.

There is a cue ball and each player has their own object ball. Usually this is played on a snooker table.
Each player starts the game with a break shot. Object ball on the spot and cue ball on spot in the kitchen.
After the last player does their break shot, the cue ball stays where it lies and the first player shoots.
There hasn't been a golf game in Tucson for years, all snooker tables have been removed.
This game can be played by two players or as many as 6 or so. Money is set before game starts. I mostly witnessed friendly games that were $5 or $10 and each hicky(foul) was $.25 or $.50. As John Henderson points out, serious gamblers could really bet it up and sometimes did.

I've sweated a couple of $500/$50 heads-up games. That's getting it out-of-the-mud right there.

Although I wish snooker was more popular on the few 12-footers around me, I actually really enjoy this game despite how frustrating it can be.

The table where I play has some slick tournament blue simonis on it now, but ** * here's a video of someone running a whole game on said table ** * before it was re-felted.

Does anyone have any information on where this game originated, and how long it's been being played?

It seems puzzling that a game with such little documentation would take a hold in such vastly different parts of the country, though it explains the locality of the rules from venue to venue.

Also, watch out for those middle pocket shots, nasty little hurdle but whoever gets it first typically has a pretty clear lead over the other player(s).

In Family Billiards ( Clearwater, Fl ) from probably 71, 72 through 2000 or so, there was a golf game going pretty much open to close, 7 days a week. 5 x 10. Almost always 2 teams of 2, betting anywhere from 5 and 1 all the way up to 100 and 5 ( or more ). From what I've seen traveling around, rules for Golf seem to change from room to room. Originally we had 2 5x10 snooker tables. The owner had one converted to a pool table in the 80s, then sold it, replaced with a Gold Crown. Sadly enough, the game died out after the older guys who mostly played it passed away and @ 6 years ago, the room owner sold the remaining snooker table and replaced it with another Gold Crown.

COUNTLESS stories surrounding that table and those golf games. What a cast of characters...

It’s been around a long time. I played golf at LeCue in Houston with Red Perry in the 60’s.

Reading through the replies, all have good comments. We played for hours on 5x10 in Springfield, MO during the 90"s. Regardless of rules listed in any BCA book, each pool room had their own set of rules. With money on the table, you will learn fast - or lose even faster. Great game.
