thanks to all the information on here, i recently purchased a mini metal lathe so i can do tips and ferrules. in my location you either had to drive a little over an hour west to memphis or further in any other direction to get a ferrule job. now i can do them. i have a big supply of canvas phenolic brown and black and some soft pvc. i get more break shaft jobs than anything. anyway, i am unfamiliar with most of the ferrule materials. sure i have heard the names thrown around here a bunch. speaking of only white materials....what are some good machining hard and medium materials? a lot of people around here like a soft hit so i purchased some PVC but it just seems like its too soft to hold up for long, maybe im wrong. btw i thread all my ferrules and tenons.
thanks,
Jay

try these-in my op

Melamine, Ivory , and Ivorine 4(for break shaft- talisman bk- hard). I have come accustom to the many hits. All kamui II tips. Don't forget Ageis II for ferrules eighter. I'm playing with a seventy's shaft a lot lately-b model mcdemott shaft. I do have a mcdermott d-26 ivory ferruled . just thinking outloud. Key words metal lathe, mark

just a quick followup question - which material do you think would perform similar to a brass ferrule?
