Bill Lawson
Bill played "San Diego Dave" at the five Points Bowl in El Monte, CA, in the late 60's. Dave played the best pool of his life but still got broke. Lawson had a great break and did everythin else well, too. He was a solid gambler but, as you said, he always had trouble with the bottle.
He really was just a good ol' country boy kind of pool player. He never got any recognition and he labored in obscurity. Like a couple of his co-horts Don Watson and Joe Cosgrove he didn't get paid for his talents either.
I don't know what year he died but I remember running across him in a bar somewhere in NC in the mid-eighties.That's the last time I saw or heard of him. We were friends.
