Here's a few pictures of one of the tables I recovered at Pool Sharks pool room in Las Vegas today. I used, at John's request, the Granito Basalt cloth on the table. I stretched it 3 1/2" side to side when I installed it on the slate with the contact glue I use. Also pictured is the scraper I use with the utility blades from my razor knife to scrape off any old glue from the slate, or any other slates that need scraped. I only apply the glue to the sides of the slate and on the cloth. I also included the cutters I use to cut off the ends of the feather strips when I need to make new ones.

Someday I'll make an instructional DVD as to how I recover slates and rails. This same method of recovering slates can be applied to 3 piece slates as well, then all you have to do is staple the pockets. It's nice not to have to pull all them staples when you're repeating your own work.

cloth

Hey Glen,
What do you think of the Granita compared to the simonis.
I have had 860 and 760 on my personal table that is in my basement in northern IL.
I recently installed the Granita and found that is is the fastest cloth in my situation and i am very happy with it. Others say that it grabs the ball more than the Simonis.
I am playing on a Gold Crown 3 with Artemis rubber.
Thanx, Ron

Well...it really depends on what game you play mostly. If you play 9 ball a lot, and play in tournaments a lot, I think you should stick with Simonis 860 because of its wide use in pool rooms. If you mean "grabs the ball more" as in spin off the rails...simonis has more grab for more spin than Granito. Speed wise, I'd compare it to 760. My first choice, because I like playing 14.1 straight pool, is 760, second choice would be the Basalt, because of it's speed...close to 760, and my third choice would be 860...if I played mostly 9 ball or one pocket, in that case 860 would be my first choice. I don't know that it's really smart to play on and learn the traits of one kind of cloth...if you're not going to play on it else wheres as well. Only you know what kind of player you are, so all I can say for sure, is that all 3 cloths are real good, but only one is going to fit you needs...so you're going to have to decide what them needs are as only you can.

I found out for me that when i went to the local pool halls that the tables played faster then mine. This was a disappointment for me. The tables had 860 on them but since mine was in the basement it played slower. With the Granita and the Artemis mine is faster know and i love it.
Thanx for all the help Glen.
See ya, Ron
