Great Lakes Tour - bad news for the ladies

Once again the women of the midwest get the shaft... and not in a good way. I was hoping for a tournament schedule when I went to www.glt9.com, not really expecting it to be published yet. But what I got was much, much more disappointing news for us girls:

"The Jacoby Custom Cues Great Lakes Tour will no longer be a ladies regional tour but instead a open 10 ball tour"

First my sincere apologies I really enjoyed working with the ladies that were interested in participating in the regional tour. Second and most importantly the turn outs were just horrible it wasn't fair to the sponsors, the host room or me. The region is being taken over and the ladies tour will be renamed I will post that info on AZ as well as link it from my website.
Thank You.

Well... That is disappointing to say the least... There really isn't anything available for the ladies of the Midwest now. I wonder what happenned. If one wants to play in a qualifier, where do you go? FL, AZ, TX, a little too far for me to travel. Sigh...

Kath, where are you from? I am thinking that something that centered around Chicago might work. I know there are quite a few ladies in that area that play well. I'm with you regarding the other tours... I have travelled to play in several of them, and spent a ton of money doing it. It's just not feasible for us.

David, thanks for your response. I had no doubt there was sound reasoning for the change. How many players were you getting? I had heard that Bill Hess was going to take over...?

I have already contacted the WPBA asking for info on regional qualifier requirements - hopefully they are quick to respond. I would consider doing the leg work and running the tournaments, if there is enough interest in keeping it going. In that case, I'd need advice from any and all tour directors who are willing to give it. :)

If something else is already in the works, please post it here!!! We ladies need to know what our options are!

lady9ball, I probably know some of those ladies as well as I lived in Chicago for a number of years. Currently, I'm in Indiana. Chicago would be a great option, considering the close proximity to other Midwest states as well as the number of pool rooms available.
If there is anything that I can do to help, let me know, I would be happy to assist and I'm not just saying that to be nice. I will help if asked. I may be able to try and get some additional help from some more ladies as well if needed.

I just re-read David's post and it looks like something else may be happening. If so, I would be happy to help in any way I can.

Kath, as I was reading this thread I wondered if I might know you. Did you just open a room in the last couple of years? If I'm correct please say hello to Jim for me. If not, like Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say, nevermind! Phil Welch

Yep, it's me. Jim said to say hi and try and stay out from underneath Cadillacs. :) I still can't believe that happened to you. If ever there was a true pool player, you are it. Hit by a car and still made it to the tournament on time... Jim said, he asked if you needed a minute and you said no, "rack'em up."

As the one of the founding organizers of the Great Lakes Tour, I'm very sad to hear about this news. Julie Melman and I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into creating and maintaining what we intended to be the best thing to ever happen to women's pool in the midwest. However, I do understand the business side of it, as brought up by Dave Hanshaw (who by the way was a fine tournament director while I was still a part of it, and later continued on as the organizer).

If anyone decides to try and revive a women's regional tour, I would be more than happy to offer whatever advice and help that I can. Please contact me.

Include me, too. If you gals need any help, please let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Thanks for the offers of help - if it comes to that, you may all be called upon for help! :) I found out there is something in the works, and I would be very interested in knowing where that stands. Awhile back someone posted that Bill and Tina Hess would be taking over the women's tour... if anyone knows them, please find out the status for us.

In the meantime, I will work on trying to get more interest. It may be that some women just weren't aware.

LOL, You had to bring that up? That is a funny story. Everytime I see Larry Schwartz that's the first thing he talks about. He laughs that I had tire tread marks on my pant leg. Good to hear from you and hope everyone's fine. Is the baby playing pool yet? I know Jim will have her playing good fast. I'll have to make it to Terre Haute one of these days,
until then take care. Phil
P.s. Sorry Lady9ball for interupting a serious thread but needed to say hi to an old friend. Please forgive me.
