I recently asked Richard Hsu http://www.rjhcustomcues.com/to restore one of my Alex Brick cues. The previous owner was not kind to this one; it had gouges in the finish that went into wood, finish bubbles everywhere, more big bad dings and scratches than you could count.
Before you ask, I chose Richard to do this one because I played with one of his cues for over a year, and I believe he does the BEST STACK LEATHER WRAP in the Industry. Several cuemakers looked at my RJH cue and couldn't believe what this guy does with stack leather. No offense, Cory, but Hsu does better installs than Tiger! I quickly called Scott S to see if he is doing stack leather wraps. This cue just needed stack leather so I sent it to Richard.
This cue really was a disaster. Structurally, it was sound - except dings that penetrated the wood. But aesthetically it was a nightmare.
Suffice to say, Hsu did a fantastic job restoring & refinishing the entire cue, and did his usual magic with the stack leather. It's looks more like concentric circles than something that's been wrapped.
It had a butt-ugly B/W irish linen wrap before (I know that's redundant
), and he did a perfect job with the new channel. He even kept the original logo in the butt, which musta been tough to work around.
He's not cheap by any means, but his work is fantastic so the value is certainly there. No PAIN-fully cheap slap-a-wrap here - his pricing is in-line with other top-quality, established repair guys. ($340.00 for this job)
All in all, I recommend Richard Hsu to anyone needing repair/refinish, and to everyone wanting the coolest Stack Leather wrap around.
