Green Fees on the Left Coast

So far Northern California pool halls do not charge green fees for their tournaments. 100% payouts plus added money (usually based on total player turnout, but sometimes guaranteed)

I've noticed that there are some rooms in Southern California charging Green Fees to supplement the 'added money' which is acceptable and might just start a trend out here on the 'left coast'

In the mid-west (where I use to live and play) green fees were the 'norm' usually just a couple of dollars out of a $10 entry fee.

As a player paying $20-30 for entry fees for a tournament I would have certain expectations from the room and TD.

Payouts should at the very least be 25% of the field and a very generous payout of 33% would make a lot more players happy.

Post the money breakdown as soon as possible. (usually be the end of the first round of play)
Number of players x entry fee - green fee + added (if any)
and then the payouts 1st-2nd-3rd and so on.

I like to see double the entry fee to the lowest paying place. (i.e. if there are 32 players with an entry fee of $15, 7th and 8th will receive $30)

Double elimination has more matches on the one loss side than the winners side and should be played first. Good TD's know this and start these matches.

Hey Tom-
Hope you're doing well. Before I moved to Bakersfield I would play in some monthly tourneys in Washington that would say: $40/entry $10/green fee and $1,000 added. You you enter a $1,000 added tourney for $50. With 64 players they usually had about 40 or so players so they would get $400 for greens fees which pretty much meant they were only adding $600 and we were playing with open tables. Obviously the numbers change with fewer or more entries.

Also I think they had a minimum number of entrants to even hold the tourney. Wouldn't add $1,000 if only 8 showed up.

But pretty much right after they made their draw and bracket they could figure out how many places they were paying and what the amounts were.

I have been running around Sacramento and Stockton the past few months. If I stay the night sometime I'll have to stop in and see if you're around.

Take Care.
