What kind of greens fees do you usually have to pay in tournaments?
I'm thinking of playing in a tourny tomorrow, entry fee for me will be between $30-40 and the greens fee will be $25, does this sound high to anyone else?

If I'm reading your post correctly, $25 for a green fee with an entry fee of $30 to $40 means only $5-15 per entrant is going into the tourney prize fund. That's outrageous!

At the most, green fees should be $5 for every $25 in entry fee money. Such as a $10 green fee for a $50-60 entry fee.

Sounds like the only ones making a killing on this touney are the people running it!

I wouldn't play!

What kind of add on money is there?

I think he means 40 entry plus the greens fee, which in USD I think would be about $15.

I'm gonna have to drive over an hour to get there, then its gonna cost me $25 dollars to join the tour, ill prolly have to pay $30 to $40 to play and on top of that the greens fee is $25.
Edit:$500 dollars added if 25 people show up

Sounds like the room owner is throwing in the greens fees as added money if there is a turnout. The structure you describe is not unusual for a tour type event. Good luck to you!

yessir (insert Canadian currency joke)

Don't be so modest, the US Dollar is weak right now. Canadian and US dollars are almost the same, 1USD = 1.06CAD.

Is it a handicapped tourney with different entry depending on your handicap, and the same green fee for everyone? If so, that might make more sense.

If you play as a low handicap and therefore are paying little in entry, maybe the green fees are right but the entry should be higher. :)

P.s. I think the Cdn. dollar will be worth more than the US dollar withing 6 months.

It's starting to look like it. On the upside, US exporters will have a party.

I know of a tournament that is $20 entry and $20 green fee. I would play again! The reason is, $2000 added. a FAT auction, fun people, good food and action. That's at Sharkey's in Alexandria,LA. Open Diamond 7ft's, Simonis cloth and red circle cue balls.

Had a blast out there!

What's sad is that I used to go to Canado often considering I live in upstate New York, and I used to get at least 1.5 exchange. Would go to the casino with 100 american and get 156 canadian.

I lived in Montreal for 4 years, eh....

Even taking into account the exchange rate back then, it cost way more to live there than in the good ole US of A...

It is HIGH. The costs for running a tournament are high but a green fee of $25 seems high, especially if it is a local or regional tournament..

It also depends on if it is a bar table (with coins or not).

I disklike tournaments which have all of the the FEES: Tour Fee, a Registration Fee, Entry Fee and a virtual mandatory stay over night fee (hotel). Guess I'm getting spoiled with the bi-monthly tournament at Buffalo's even though I have been unable to get a whiff at the good money.

it sounds pretty high, our local weekly tournament pays out either 100% if the tournament is tiny or they just keep a bit for table time (something like 8 bucks) if a fair number of people are playing... the rest goes in the pot. When the money is too small the owner sweetens the pot with certificates for free table time. He's a generous dude.
