The Great Cue Masters...!
Silver Member
Hello AZer's,

I'm going to be working in Greenville, SC for the next few weeks and maybe even longer...

I'd love to visit several of the Best Pool Halls (wherever the action is) and also some decent places to eat. Who are the local greats? and where do they play at?

And how about Instruction from a pro or someone that is a highly acclaimed instructor? Is Stevie Moore from here?

I'm not sure what SC is noted for, but I'd also like to see some of the local sites around SC.

I plan on doing a search...but...
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Also, are there any custom cue makers in the area? I'll also be going to Columbus...and quite a few of the surrounding areas.

Thanks for all of your input,
jwe

Palace Billiards is the place to go in Greenville, I just now got back from there.
Stevie Moore is from Spartanburg, about 25-30 miles from Greenville, where I'm from myself. Seems like Stevie is on the road playing in tournaments all the time, these days.
I've been told that Brian White is often found at Palace, he's also from Spartanburg. I've been out of the loop for several years and am just now starting to get back out again.

By all means go see Mike Gulyassy at his shop; he also gives lessons. You might even run into Strickland there, whom Mike sponsors.

I think Larry Nevel is still around. He's usually to be found at Rainbow Billiards in Easely, about 20 miles from Greenville. Larry gives lessons and is a treasure trove of information. Rainbow Billiards has good action.

Lori Jon Jones and Sammy Jones' store is less than a mile from The Palace. That would be a worthwhile visit.

Shannon Daulton is also in Greenville. He gives an occasional lesson and I'm sure he'd be willing to bet a little if you'd care for some one pocket or 9-ball action ... just kidding.

Brian White, too.

If you are here during the Smokey Mountain Shootout, you should drive to Waynesville, NC to see it. It's always a treat. It's held sometime in April. I don't know the exact dates.

Leggs bar, on Wade Hampton Blvd, has a very good Friday night tournament where you can find Diamond bar boxes and should be able to find someone to gamble with.

The Palace is the place for pool in Greenville. Decent Gandy tables and a very pleasant place to play. The owner, Mike, is as good as people come.
