With all due respect to your grandfather and the British, damn they owed us a few dances, we were bailing their butts out of a pretty hot fire.
The British have done some pretty good things, but we shouldn't forget the inhumanity they were capable of at times in the name of their empire. When all was said and done their empire was built upon military strength and terror in order to rob the inhabitants of the dominated countries. They did it politely with a smile on their face, but terror is terror. Just ask the Scots or the Irish or the Indians or etc.
That said, Allison Fisher and the Manchester United soccer (or should I say "football") team rule.
Nice story nevertheless.

I've been deployed with the British military. Little weird and heavy drinkers, but they were great to live with. Come to think of it, maybe I like them because I describe my family with the same words.

Could this describe any of the pool players on this forum?

This was a great story, Gremlin. My father served in WW2, guess that makes you younger than me.:D

Good thing this is a lifetime sport. Gives something to oldies like me something to do. LOL

Bluewolf,

We don't talk about ages. It's not important and has no relevance.

And truely, nobody really wants to live to be a hundred - ah, except of course for the guy that's 99 :p

Bernie,

My admiration and respect for the people of UK started when I was a kid. There was one defining moment, in modern history, when the British and American peoples were at their closest. This was during the wartime years, between 1941-45. My grandfather served in the great World War 2. In a military organization know as the 8th Army Air Force, 452nd Bomb Group stationed at Deopham Green Airfield in East Anglia England. Do you know anything about Norfolk or Suffolk in East Anglia? Do you want me to go on?

Deopham Green is about 5.5 miles south west of Wymondham, between Hingham and Great Ellingham. The airfield was constructed during 1942-43 by John Laing & Sons Ltd to Class A specification for heavy bomber use. It had a 2000-yard main runway with two intersecting 1400-yard auxiliary runways, all 50 yards wide. A 50-feet wide perimeter track about 3.5 miles long connected the ends of the runways. There were 50 looped or pan hardstandings; two type T2 hangars, one each side of the airfield; Mk II lighting on the main runway and full technical facilities. There was temporary accommodation for 2900 men.

The airfield was occupied by the 452nd Bomb Group on 3rd January 1944 equipped with Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses carrying ten crew members. Combat operations began on 5th February 1944. The group flew 250 missions from Deopham Green during the war and lost 110 bombers in this time. The group suffered particularly high losses during the spring of 1944.

Well, during those terrible times the local English people would have dances, volunteer for hospital duty and bring flowers and especially strawberries to the "Yanks" as my grandfather was called. He took me to England with him to one of the reunions. He asked me before he died to make sure if I got a chance to do something nice for any of the English people to do it. That is why I am a supporter of the UK pool ladies Bernie. I promised him!!!!!! So now you know! Hell, most assuredly will have frozen over before I would ever forget my promise.

Now on a lighter note. We are friends which live with in 200 miles of each other. I am informed of the tournament schedule my friends keep and when they are close I go to see them play. For an example of which I am very proud I gave some cues to Kelly and Val to get started with as 24 hours after coming to the Colonies they went right to playing tournament 9-Ball and had nothing but snooker cues. My grandfather would have loved it.

Attached photo 60 years old of the bomb dump in the backround you can see a B-17 being armed my favorite photo. I know this has nothing to do with pool but maybe this has everything to do with pool as my grandfather played it. :)

Cheers,

Gremlin

**YAAAWNN** to use your own words, Gremlin, this is boring and has nothing to do with pool. Please go back to posting your stalker pics of the WPBA :D

Hi Brian "The Sandbag" APA7 = 7 sandbags LOL Hey, your not jealous are you? How stupid are you? You didn't have to read it? I disagree it's all about pool.

Typical.

By the way, you resemble the arrogant midget version of Hannibal Lector :D

Brian

What has gotten into you? calling Gremlin a stalker in one post, and a 'midget hannibel lector' in another?

It sounds like your own dark side rearing it's ugly head and remember Gremlin did not start the thread, but was asked questions.

And as far as the women pool players go, why is it so hard for you to see what is so obvious to me? That Gremlin gets the joy of being around beautiful women, while they enjoy having a man who supports them and the free publicity they receive as a result of his attention to them.

His motives are not important, nor are they anyone's business. It is apparent that both he and the women who have their pictures taken benefit from this arrangement.

And yes, talking about women's pool and the women doing well in it, is very relevant to pool. If you find his post boring, then stuff it, I found it entertaining and enjoyable.

To Gremlin- My father passed away in 1997. He was a very kind man, but proud of being in WW2, and especially proud that he participated in "The Battle of the Bulge". So, your post brought up fond memories for me.

Dear Laura,

Sorry to read of your dad's passing. 300 World War 2 vetrans die every day soon there will be no one left to remember except you and I. :( Thanks for the vote of confidence! Don't let people in a meaningless forum get you upset.

Gremlin

We are in the middle of trying to move and all of my books are in storage, so where I am staying, I picked up a book I read in college called 'Man's Search for meaning' about a guy who survived the concentration camps during that war. Those who survived that time and served in the war, yes, as kids, we were told all about it, but it is not the same as living it. And when our generation is gone, with the exception of books written, sadly it will be all forgotten, both the heroism and the horrors. It is said that 'anyone without an understanding of history is doomed to repeat it'. That also is true if one studies the history of mankind.

Thanks about my dad. He was a stronghold for me and losing him was very hard. Each year gets a little better but I do not think a person gets completely over that, but rather gets to the point where they can focus on the good memories and carry something about that person's essence inside of them.

As far as letting people on the internet bother me, that is pretty silly and it does not bother me so much as it did at first, although sometimes I get a little testy. Once when describing something on a forum, my son said 'oh no, not another internet drama!!!!' LOL

I have found that there are some really nice people on the forums and some real losers and it really is a waste of time to rent the losers much head space, if any.

I have found it more fun to play pool and participate in my recent hobby of target shooting (which I never realized was like a sport LOL, but is almost as fun as pool) than to get too deep in doo. :)

Hope you had a nice holiday.

Laura

a perfect match

Gremlin and Bluewolf/Laura,

You two are a perfect match. You both come to a POOL forum to ramble incessantly about any passing thought that pops into your ADD minds.

Oh well, not my cross to bear. Carry on.

Brian

APA7,
What exactly is the purpose of this forum, if not to encourage incessant rambling?? Incessant rambling about pool (whether you are proficient at it or not) is a fine art - to be savored, not criticized. At least the rambling is written, anyone can chose to read it or not. Keep up the good rambling folks.

You know pal I dont think you like nobody, for sure, nobody likes you. All you do is post negatives, attack people, you are what we call a board herrorhorid, you smell. Try and see the good in people and try try try, to get postive.
I saw you play and your high run for the evening was 5 balls, apa 7, right, in your best wet dream. Where do you people come from with these fantasies. Playing them out on the boards I guess in your sick minds makes you somebodies you are not? Why can't you be what you are, just a ball banger with a rotten attitude.

APA 7, YOU ARE A GIANT FRAUD AND A PHONY. You have been banned off of all 4 pool chat boards. You have been called a vampire, the wicked evil one, the Al Quida of the internet boards. You are nothing but a sicko psyco stalker. You live in Wash, DC, your past name was Yappin Wolf, the scourge of scourges. You are the worst slime that slimes the earth. Your name is now circulating and many now know who you really are. Your attacks on so many people shall now come home to you.
You are nothing but a choking dog who can play a little but can't ever win becuase you have both hands on your throat and at heart are a giant loser, in love, in life, in pool. This is just one of about 20 alias's you have used and which have been exposed just this year alone. We know who you are, where you play, where you work, were you hang your hat. Soon we are going to publish that, world wide for all to know. Your can run, but you cannot hide. The boards will be so much better off without trash like you infecting them.
Everyone, say hello, to yappin wolf.

Apa7

Hey dude, you live in the DC area. I would love to play you. I ain't even rated, that's how poorly I play. Send me a PM and lets set up a match. I got some mad money stashed away, the ol'lady would never miss it. Say about $500 right out of the gate. 7 ahead 9 ball. 1 set. That will do for starters.

Purdy you get jerks like this apa 7 who thinks he can play. He makes a few posts then thinks hes some major guru now. He runs out and takes lessons from all the big teachers and it did squat for his game. Soon he begins telling everyone hes a pro. Soon he begins to believe this lie and fraud. He buys into his own fantasy. Yes this guy lives in DC, yes you have met him. He will never match up with you because he is a coward and a choking dog. No matter what game you play he will find a way to lose. If he does comes out from under his rock to really reveal who he is and play, I'll back you for a grand on the first set just to see this guy choke and fold. I get half of the grand when you win. No way he will come back for a 2nd set, no way. Yappin wolf, what a hugh sick joke this guy is. Wait till you find out who he really is.

Yep, Don, You would clean this one's clock. This one, i have studied all that one's posts here. Almost all posts were goading FL, and then recently me and gremlin. It is so sick, he/she is not happy unless he has a victim to goad into anger.

A real joker and a sad sack. I hope he takes up your offer, because you, my friend would squash him. Doubt he would take up your offer though, because he is such a wimp, he would rather just hide and take potshots.

After being on the boards for two years, I know who hates who, their personalitiy profiles, what words they use, and so forth. By watching and patience, it is not too hard to figure out. This one even chooses the words of others like signing my word, geez, a real loser copy cat with no brain and no game. APA 7 ha,what a joke...More likely making fun of someone who REALLY is an APA7.
