Grid lines on table

I was thinking about drawing lines(with chalk) on my home table from the diamonds ,make a grid kind of deal. I am hoping it will help me visualize my cue ball path on kicks and the like a little better. Has anyone done this? Is this a dumb idea? What are some of the things people have done to there table to make for a better practice table if any? TIA

I got my table to practice on and I frequently will draw on it with blackboard chalk.

Also I have one of those construction string chalk lines. I (and a friend) will hold it across the table, then snap it. Then it leave a straight line where I want it.

I've drawn lines after installing new cloth to perfectly center the spot. Diagonal from corner pocket to corner pocket so it is easy for me to set up shots along that line. And also straight down center or straight across middle between side pockets. Also I have placed three ring binder stickers on the table and marked different angles of cut shots, aiming lines, etc.

And I use a triangular shaped piece of "taylors chalk" (they use this to mark pants or whatever for sewing) to mark the outline of the rack so I can rack the same each time.

This chalk will come off over time or you can use a damp cloth and get most of it off.

This could be a rather interesting exercise but keep in mind that this will teach you more about kicking theory than it will about kicking, in general. I mean, SO MANY variables go into how a ball reacts off a rail that tracking specific paths would be almost fruitless. Not to mention that once you leave your home table, you're subject to an entirely different environment with new variables. However, there are rules to the equation that are revealed in time. I think it's definately worth your while. Just don't expect anything too specific to be gained from it. You'll still miss kick-shots, just not as often.

i have my table set up with the entire table as a grid. i don't do this for kicking, i do this so i don't have to screw around with marking shots. i just set up the shot i want and thats that. i'm sure it could be helpful for figuring out angles of shots, and if i practiced it, i'd probably be able to see the lines on the table in my head when i'm playing somewhere else..........but, the hell with that..........LOL
