grip

I was playing earlier and I started to loosen the grip on my cue. After awhile I noticed myself playing better position and pocketing balls more. Does this seem logical? I never had a deathgrip on my cue earlier but this seems to work.

I guess I don't know how to word my question very clearly. Would it be wrong to continue to use a lighter grip?

It isnt wrong to use a light grip.

Sometimes when I am nervous or under a lot of pressure I tighten my grip without noticing and it definately hurts my stroke.

WHen i first started in this sport i thought a tight grip was the right way..now grip with 2 fingers sometimes 3 and i get more english and able to run racks

I agree with CS. Loose grip all the way. You will find you can get FAR more action on the cue ball. I personally believe it is also more accurate, however that is just opinion.

yes, in fact i have developed my stroke into the most effective slip-stroke...;)

I agree. I've had a tight grip all my life.
Read about the loose grip on CCB
& it has definitely improved my game.
Why didn't somebody tell me this before?

Loose grip, straight stroke, solid bridge. When I have those, I play reasonable.

The same thing goes for me. My grip is much more lose and i have been shooting much better i posted about this last week. Congrats on noticing the difference in your game i sure know i have noticed a difference in my game.

If you are gripping your cue that if you let it go, it would slide off-line, it means you are "guiding" the cue.
I cannot draw any better that throwing the cue.
Loose grip is really the best-kept secret in pool I think.
Heck, it's not really a grip. It's just there so the cue does't drop to the floor.:D

my Dominiak has no wrap.

When I want lots of action, I basically let go of it right before contact (not really -- i still support it) and it shoots thru the cue ball, spinning it wherever i need.

it's so much fun i have to remember to tell myself that with english, less is more...

I use a very light grip pn the cue. I think it helps a great deal on the follow thru, witch helps you hit the cueball where you want, Witch gives you better postion

You can't hold the cue too light, you hold it, you do not grip it.:D

The grip is just a side to side "pinch" no more agressive than holding a foam coffee cup. Now when your breaking, a tigher "pinch" will be needed much like a quick snap-back draw shot where you need to get the cue out of the way and not double hit "whitey" on its way towards you. BF
