Located in Baton Rouge, Mike Johnson has made cues for many players over the years. Just recently, he custom-made cue sticks for the infamous Cole Dixon, Keith McCready, and Maverick Dave Matlock. It's all about the "hit" and Mike knows what the players like.
Each person looks for a their cue stick to possess the qualities they desire, which can vary from player to player. Because of Keith's unique side-stroke, he likes a whole lot of forward balance, and the shaft must be firm, with a long professional taper and ivory ferrules.
If you're willing to work with a cue-maker, like Mike Johnson, and know what attributes you desire in a good-hitting cue, he's the man! His cue sticks have a wide range in prices, and depending on your taste, he can suit one to fit within your pocket book.
Remember, if the stick don't hit, then you must acquit.

As JAM says Mike Johnson of Jensen cues does very nice work. Prices are around $500 and up 20% up front.
Another is Gem cues located in Lake Charles,LA. Prices $300-$650.

I agree with Jam. Mike Johnson has been building custom cues for over 35 years, is a player himself, does everything (inlay, design, etc) by his own hands, - works directly with the customer and yes, he has made cues for several top players - on request. Some of them are Jimmy Reid, Cole Dickson, Keith McCready, Dave Matlack, Buddy Hall ---and the list goes on. The good part is that he will NOT pay anyone to play with his cues. You must like it or else. He's now world known, very busy since he got his website and still give the very best customer service. The word out the is that he's never had a "unhappy customer". THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING!!!
