If only pool could match this kind of action:
Tom Dwan spiked a king on the river to win more than 500k from Patrick Antonius, whose trip tens were 82 percent favorites. Poker After Dark has it figured out.
Would pool be any less exciting for the same money? Forget the tournaments. Show us the cash games and the audience will follow.
The difference between poker and pool is simply one word - luck.
An amatuer that plays reasoanbly well can complete with a pro in poker because of the luck factor. The pro will win more often becuase of his ability, but the amateur can still win.
Thus the reason why you get 7,000 players paying $10,000 each to play in the main event.
In pool, the longer a race, the less chance a lower level player has to win.
Imagine if you had 9-ball tournament, a $500 entry, race to 1, triple elimination tournament that paid back the top approx 10 % of the field. You would likely get more than 1,500-2,000 players signing up. Every player in the field is good enough to run out a table thus while the pro has an advantage in ability, a pro is not likely to win this tournament buit most will probably cash.
Think about it, you get 2,000 players all who have the ability to run a table and a prize fund of $1,000,000 paid back to the top 128.
You wan't to create drama, there you go.
How many on this board would pay $500 for a race to 1 tournament with a first place of $250,000.
I know I would.
