hand surgery and pool

i've had some issues with osteoarthritus (hip replacement) and now have
been told i need a basal joint arthroplasty (thumb joint surgery) in both hands. today i got the shots in both thumb joints and the surgery on the left hand will be in mid june.
i dearly love to play pool, although not good, and had scheduled myself
to get a table this year.
i don't mind if rehab takes 6 months, i just want to play as least as bad as i do now to reap the enjoyment from the table investment.
has anyone had this done and what was your outcome?

Wether or not they immobilize your thumb post surgery, Physical or Occupational Therapy should help you eventually regain functional range of motion and strength in you hand. Your therapy will probably revolve around ultrasound, elctrotherapy, lots of stretching and strengthening exercises with big rubber bands and etc.

Anyway, there isn't much required of the thumbs to play pool. If you can make the "ok" sign and carry a 19 0z wieght in your hand you'll be fine. I'm a physical therapist btw.
