Hang light cross way or length way??

I've heard that it's better to hang your table light cross way rather than the typical length way. I've seen it before but never played on a table with the light hanging this way. I think I may do this, but I want to get a "Professional" opinion before setting it up. Thanks.

I played on a table for years with cross set lights.

2 x 4', 4 sets recessed in the ceiling. The lighting was excellent.

(just a player, not a table mechanic or pro player)

More tubes = More Light

I have 8, yes 8, 8foot tubes over my table, and the light is over 10 feet off of the ground. This is the best Ive had yet, my fourth pool table light setup in ten years!!! with the parabolic light diffusers it does a great job.

With an excessive amount of light, turning the fixture the other direction would pose no problems, but if your lacking enough light it might take 2 fixtures turned sideways to eliminate the shadows...JMO
