I have been giving lessons to someone for a few sessions, and a little while back my student told me how my "aiming system" does not work after a certain point. So we both attempted the same shots, after he missed and I made them he just said lets leave it alone , I said the truth is the "system does not break down , You Do. fast forward to today, today no lesson we just played some straight pool .After showing great improvement on ball pocketing (10) fold he cuts this ball in I would have never attempted, I say great shot/ He looks at me and says Great Instructor. I love to witness the Aha moments when giving Lessons !

It was so extreme I would have chosen to bank the ball.

Some people just see sharp cut shots better than others. They don’t bother me, as long as the CB is not too far away from the OB, and the OB is not too far away from the pocket.

Not to shim this tangent but close straight pool cuts can be reliably potted by shooting on a <tangent is 90 degrees to pocket> basis. Even the thinnest cuts provide a straight edge to edge carom.
