Given all the discussion about hard cases for travel, I want to share this:
Cabela's has a Gen II "Bulletproof" Takedown Shotgun Case (item IK-230394) that I just ordered. The standard colors are expensive, but the olive drab is marked down and is available in limited quantities. I have no idea why this is the case (pun intended) as I have no affiliation with Cabela's. I do know a good deal when I see one, so I placed my order. I'll post a review in a week or two.
The dimensions are 36"L x 14"W x 4-1/2"H -- I think it will make a fine travel case with or without modifications. The extra length should allow room for some accessories.
