Harder and Harder to make money just on Table time.

I give my pool away from 11 a.m. To 7 p.m. Everyday!! I make all my money off of liquor.

for any business if you see profit diminishing in an area its time to look at why and if you could be making profit in a different area. analyze the situation. try talking to customers to see if they would like anything made available to them that you could profit from.

gas stations dont make money off of gas. food and drink.

thats the way to do it, IMO most room owners are short sighted and scared to make that play. I know lots about the pool room biz and biz in general. I'd give the time away for ever as long as the trade-off is a full room of spending customers(read bar, video poker, and what ever else i'm selling). Now if they are there sharing water then i'd start charging table time real fast and look for a exit stragity.

In LA its not possible to open a pool room and survive, the rent alone would kill off the biz, the pool room biz is just to hard these days.

best of luck to all,

eric

timed tables

you will bring in more revenue from your tables if they are quarter tables, especially during tournaments. if the tournament players have payed only $10 or $15 dollars for greens fee and they take up most of your tables for most of the weekend you can easily see how you are hard pressed to break even on tournament weekends. at the placed i managed we have only timed tables so we offered memberships with discounted rates for regulars. 25% off pool time, 10% off alcohol/food and 15% off everything else. $50 per year for membership and if they have played at least 200 hours in the past year the renewal is free. we also allow our team captains to play on our valley bar boxes for free mon.- thurs. until 10 pm. weekend afternoons are slow so on saturdays from 3pm til 6pm it is a flat fee of $7 and sun. from 3pm til 6pm is free. this really picked up the weekend afternoon crowd. we also offer flat rate pool play. sunday -thursday from 11pm til 2am is only $20 to rent the table no matter the # of players. if you don't have your own cue we rent our house cues for a flat fee of a dollar.afternoon rates are lower than the evening rates by a couple of bucks and that also made a difference with the afternoon crowd. but if you want to make a million bucks you will have to offer alcohol/food. you can do other things to bring up your sales of course and i utilized pool house manager software which allows you to do all this and more
