hardtop table cover - recommendation?

Is there a good quality hardtop cover that will fit my pro-8 Gold Crown I table?

I have it in my office and sometimes I need the surface area for assembling hardware and such.

I would rather spend more and get something that will fit and truly protect the table.

Thanks in advance.

I don't mind paying for a custom made top (within reason).

Anyone know of a quality cover?

If you want to remove it often and easily, I do not recommend the ping pong table insert that doubles as glide hockey - as these are heavy.

Consider hard styrofoam covered with Formica. This can be sized to fit into the playing surface. I saw something like this at Buffalo Billiards in Washingto DC, so the patrons can eat on the tables as they watch football. It will be light, and yet hard enough to write on, or even put stacks of books on.

If you want something that looks really nice, you will probably want something custom-made from a high grade birch or oak plywood. The underside could be covered in felt and double as a card playing surface. Again, this will be heavy.

Good luck.

follow up

I ended up getting one through Ken Hash at Custom Billiards. It is the "convertable" made by Hood Leather Co., and Ken knew which model fit the GC table best. He also had a great price on the Hood line, and was able to get me a custom color.

It is a two piece cover, with fitted vinyl cover and a folding pad that fits down inside the bumpers. It is the same height as the rails resulting in a flat surface. There really isn't any padding above the rails, but it works fine for me, thanks for the ideas.
