Has any one tried this?

I'm thinking of organizing a 1 on 1 type of league and/or matches. I have several Idea's on how to set it up, as well as make it profitable, for both the players and the hosting pool hall.

I'm curious if any owner/operators or any one else for that matter has set up 1 on 1 matches. Not necessarily, action/gambling matches. Set up a weekly match between a couple of the more well known players, as an attraction to bring in a crowd.

Any input or idea's are more than welcome.

Thanks,

Justin Hanson

Justin....What is in it for the "dancing bears" (players). The room may be compensated with additional beverage/food sales....but as we all know....Pool players throw nickles around like sewer covers. What is your idea for these "exhibition matches"?

The players need a reason to show up. I'm thinking a long race tournament, where the matches are played 2-4 a night. I think it will taking some steps to put some things together. If it all lands, I will be very happy to share the format, and hot I went about putting it together. The "dancing bears" of which I hope to be one, will have some sort of monetary reward, just gotta get things lined up. (I'm already insanely busy on other stuff this may take a while, and a bit to put together.)

best,

We had VNEA league where we had a singles division, and you played your opponent 9 games, and usually 2 matches( another player for the 2nd match) per evening. Everyone had a ton of fun,

I want to do something where there is either one long match played, (race to 21 or so) or some sort of tennis type format, maybe best of 3 sets, race to 7-9. I also want this to end up on the big table, but more than likely it will be BB 8 or 9 ball. Gotta get it sorted out a bit. I'm going to be looking for a couple sponsors to do added money. I'm going to try and start small with an 8 man bracket and see how it works.

I'll get more details when I get them sorted out.

I've almost got this hammered out. I'm trying to get some cheese for the players to play for. I want to be able to offer something substancial for the player's to fight over, and people to want to watch for!

This should get interesting soon...

Pretty cool idea, I have thought about this myself in the past and would be interested if something like this took off in my area.

When I organized a pool league in Wisconsin in 1965, I began by forming a team and challenging bars to 4 on 4, then 5 on 5 matches. After I got the interest up, we formed an 8 team league that doubled each year till I had to give up the project. But "my" league continued to grow and eventually was an important part of the original VNEA.

Put up signs. Post standings, results, etc. with plenty of photos. Get your local TV, radio station or newspaper to give you a plug. Send them the current and/or final standings. Encourage teams to find sponsors...bars, restaurants, clothing stores, beverage distributors, cue and table people, etc., who will furnish shirts and more for advertising value.

I should say that step # 1 is to find a venue (pool hall, bar, bowling alley with tables, student union) that has a sincere interest in pool and pool players. Without that, all efforts will fail.
