Has Anyone Ever Caught The Rabbit?

I think most of us here, amateur players, are chasing The Rabbit (cue the "Impossible Dream") looking to consistently play at whatever level we believe is just renumeration for our devotion to the game.

We play, compete, practice... wash, rinse and repeat. We experience the occasional highs, many more lows, and play of such inconsistency we frequently consider abandoning the game we love. But we soldier on, march forward, and persevere.

And so, my question for the few is: have you caught The Rabbit and played, consistently, as well as you always dreamed you'd play?

Or perhaps it's just that he wants to play. Makes me think of the kid called Porkchop.....because they tied a Porkchop around his neck to get the family's dog to play with him. 🤷‍♂️
Okay, I will play.....uh Yes.

Yep. Skinned that bastard and ate every bite!!

I orgianlly wanted to dominate my friends and people in the bars. I guess i acheived my rabbit. But those are really not high up there in how hard it is.

I learned to shoot as soon as I could hold a gun. Starting with BB guns. When old enough to shoot a twenty two, I had the good fortune of older friends that bought ammunition in blocks of a thousand. They also had another rifle with 2 and a half power scope for me.. With their nearest neighbor 3 miles away we would sit on the back porch and target practice. One day we "caught the rabbit". No we really caught him in the clearing on the hillside. With 3 rifles the challenge was not to shoot him, that would be too easy. The challeng was to keep him in the clearing by shooting in front to get him to reverse. After uncounted rounds and alternate reloads. He just stopped and sat down. So did we. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting question. I guess it all depends on each person's idea of what the rabbit is and whether or not it's the same rabbit each time you step to the table or walk into a pool room.

For the record, my understanding of this question is that "caught the rabbit" is a metaphor for "achieve your goal."

So, have I ever caught the rabbit. Yes. Executed the shot I stepped to the table to make... Caught it many times. Those are usually tiny rabbits. But the neat part about those is that if you catch enough of them in a row, they add up to one heck of a meal. Hell, Jayson Shaw caught 832 rabbits in a row not too long ago. And while the majority of those rabbits couldn't have fed a grasshopper on their own, the pile at the end was enough to feed an army and still have leftovers.

Also, I've never considered abandoning this game. I understand why some people do at times, though. Some of those rabbits are elusive as hell and it can be beyond frustrating to touch its tail but still have it get away. But I just love it too much and I have too many amazing memories to ever consider making it a part of my past.

Nope, I am like almost everyone else , about 8 to 10 times in my life , where for a period of 2 hours, to a whole day , I played so well it didn't seem like it was me that was actually shooting the balls, everything I tried to do, happened. I am talking about , take your top game, and now you are playing 4 balls better. You don't know why or how, but you just stop missing. Each time , it was like I went into a place in my head ,where I had no other thoughts , than what I was doing on the table.
I believe that the main reason most of us weekend warriors , seldom play to our ability ,is because of distractions. Thinking about work or a problem while playing. Not meaning to, but it is in our DNA to solve problems sooner, than later, most great pool players , on the other hand ,seem to live in a constant state of chaos, caused by paying almost no attention , to life around them.

Okay one more caught the rabbit story....but the ending wasn't as good for the rabbit s. Shirley a story I have told here....at least once.
Sensitivity alert: Could upset a vegetarian.
As a Cadet in basic training we spent a week on survival. At 10,000 plus feet above sea level in the Rockies. On Wednesday they brought in trucks of rabbits to dispense to the 500 cadets in each of the three different one week training exercises. Each group of 10 was given 2 rabbits to kill and eat.
We were told to send 2 from our camp to get the rabbits and bring back to our camp. It was at least a quarter mile jaunt. Probably closer to a half. Our group of 10 included 7 whinners and 3 go getters. The 3 of us convinced 3 more to go to get the rabbits, as "this is the military and they might screw up and give our second and third pairs rabbits." Well that didn't happen. But...as they removed the rabbits from their cages, many escaped and were lounging in the huge open field. 6 guys can catch a rabbit. 2 men have no chance. While numerous other pairs tried no negotiat agreements and others still went back to camp to get help.....We Caught 4 rabbits, so had 6 for our group of 10. Not only did we have more meat it also gave each member the chance to participate in the hands on of the most humanely method of killing. One member of our group balked and was told by the cold hearted faction, "if you don't help kill it you don't help eat it either."
