Hey guys, was playing around with some stuff and came up with this. I have been looking at all those cues with the silver and gold and well, since I my shop isn't set up for inlays, I figured I would try and get creative and do something I haven't seen.... I was wondering if anyone else has done this before?

Sung <====== thinks he started a new trend.... maybe

I did that about 20 years ago. I put in 3, 18 karat gold rings into a cue for a jeweler and he then proceeded to set 36 diamonds into platinum settings and then the settings into the gold rings. I've seen bracelets, coins, rings, charms a other items put into cues without the use of CNC nor a Pantomill. In fact, I believe there are a couple of Asian cues being produced at present with metal or chromed rings in them.

Not to burst your bubble but at the end of the day, it's all been done before. There is nothing new under the sun.
Today, it's about the execution.
Decorative metal on a cue is becoming passe'.
Imo, metal rings in a cue have been done to death.
That's not to say that a little bling, tastefully done, wouldn't be acceptable. Some people like bright & shiny.

Then there's the Poison cue with the metal studs around the perimeter at several locations. Every time I see one of those, my first thought is, "what were they thinking?"

Flat wire has been wrapped around cues many times. Most chose to do it with fancy gallery wire. But having said that I will add that gallery wire is a real pain to finish and what you have there wil be a breeze to finish.

What I did was take two .015 brass rings on the outside and four .030 nickel silver rings and stacked them all together. I was just toying around with some of the stuff I had and figured what the heck. I honestly didn't know how it was gonna turn out when I did it.

When I glued them together I thought there would be glue lines in between, but when I turned them down, they sort of 'melted together'. To me, it looks like gold and silver. It also creates a nice balance for weight without using a weight bolt.

I was surprised at how good it looks. This is just something I have never seen before in my extensive experience making cues (1 yr:wink:), so I wanted to hear some opinions from some of the senior cue makers....

As always, I appreciate your replies and your honesty......

That's a nice look!
I did a cue once with a big silver band right above the buttcap. About an inch and a half tall. Made it out of a piece of silver sheet. Shaping and soldering it was a PITA!

I've only been working at working on cues, but I have seen those rings on some old Palmers and a Balabushka, just for starters.

Silver and low carrot gold does not do very well out here. The sulfur in the air turns silver black and tarnishes gold allows below 18 ct

If you sand it to size them seal it with finish, will it still tarnish?
If not then storing the material in a zip loc bag until ready to use might work.

When it is lacquered it stays shinny, but jewelry stores are always dipping stuff to keep it clean.
It stays good until the seal is broken and then it just slowly tarnishes and spreads.
Alot of people keep silverware in the deep freeze.
