All of the cues I make are presold and I would say about 10% of the people ask for their name or initials. It is usually on the bottom of the buttcap and looks good. It is engraved about 1/16" deep and may even help prevent theft as it would be hard to remove without replacing the buttcap.

I engrave my name on the buttcaps of my cues.

Get in touch with BHQ Brent Hartman he told me a story about what you're asking. In my opinion its usually not a good idea for several reasons....

I was at a pawnshop yesterday and saw 2 custom cues with 2 peoples names that i know on them for sale. Most people change cues once they see something they like better,i would not put names on cues.

I build CUSTOM cues. If someone wants their name on it, they get it. From a cuemaker's POV, it's nothing but a good thing. They may be less likely to get rid of the cue (think top player that talked you into a discount) and if the name is in the buttcap, it can always be replaced.

tap, tap, tap... I use CNC engraving bit to put names in custom cues, and will put their Dogs name if they want it :)

I seem to have misplaced most of the finished pictures, but I do have a couple of progress pics. It has ivory points with sterling silver, turquoise, and ivory veneers. A very stunning cue with a black stack wrap.

Thanks, I wish I had the ability to take better pictures, I am never able to really do justice to the finished products. The cue is quite amazing if you can actually touch it and see it in person. The combination of the ivory, ebony, silver, and turquoise, and the simple elegance of the design makes it truly special.

Thanks Bob.
I appreciate all comments, but when they come from someone of your ability, it means a lot. :) I think it takes someone like yourself to fully appreciate what it takes to produce a cue like that.

Engrave them. I engrave my own butt caps and also engrave the custom joint protectors.

Sheldon, beautiful cue - very nice design.

I just sign my name but I have a small logo I can engrave if I want to plus I engrave my initials around the front barrel of the Radial pins I use and I put a logo onto the tops of the joint protectors. If someone wants a name or initials put into the cue then I engrave and fill, either lengthwise or around the cue, whichever they prefer.
