Head Position

I know there are a million different ways to align head position over cue when sighting, interesting to see how Willie used to do it.

Well, on your shot he is clearly holding the cue under his right eye and the right side of his chin. However, this shot would almost require that head position in order to provide clearance for his stroking arm away from his body. He did not have a spread eagle stance, so it would be difficult to tell from this angle if the cue position was out of necessity or preference. I think a more revealing photo would be of him shooting a straight in shot into a side pocket where the cue ball was in the middle of the table - then we could see his true head alignment in relation to the cue.

There is a photo of a much younger Willie in the photo section of his book "Willie's Game" where the cue is clearly directly under the center of his chin - Willie was known to drop into his shooting stance directly from the shot line he saw while standing.

I saw mosconi play quite a few times. His head was usually slightly cocked and I always thought he was probably left eye dominant the way his head was over the cue. There's probably quite a few YouTube videos where we can get a pretty good idea of which it was.

Right after making my post I found this so I came back and did an edit.

Dominant left eye kept directly over their shot line by both Mizerak and Mosconi. Also Willie’s stance advice. Miz was of course a left-hander and Willie a righty, but both aligned their dominant left eye directly over the shot line, at least during the period of their career when the photos...
