Heads up for super billiard expo

If you are planning to attend and are broke like me, I’d suggest at least booking your room. You don’t have to pay up front at a lot of them if you don’t go with the cheapest offer. I booked the Hilton something or another. For an extra $7 a night I was able to pay when I get there instead of up front. Plus that includes an option to change or cancel it too which isn’t offered at the cheaper rate. 150 players have signed up in the past week and the cheaper hotels are getting sold out already(this past week). See you all there!

See you there. Stop by the McDermott Booth and say Hi. Always like meeting AZB people in person.

By the King of Prussia mall there are a bunch of places to stay. There's also the Valley Forge casino just a little bit closer to the convention center.

Both are just under a 15 minute drive.

I typically stay near the mall, just for the sake of convenience for food and other things to do. There's usually a few hours between matches, and practice tables are very tough to come by the first few days. The "practice" [gambling] room usually has big lines for each table and if you try to play in the TAP arena they'll kick you of the table very quickly.

It's a fun event with lots of vendors, but plan on doing a bunch of waiting around if you continue to win. You may get lucky and be in an easier bracket, but generally there are some excellent players in each. The top 16 is usually all 700+ players.

Cool. I recognized a few of the 700’s on the list from the last couple times in Vegas for APA. It almost seems easier to play someone that level. You might not win but you don’t go in expecting to either. You just go in and put forth your best game hopefully without any distractions. That’s all you can do. It’s nice and peaceful.

It’s also really tempting to enter the pro am just for shits and giggles and maybe throw down the $500+ on the pro when it pops up. It’s only money. If you’re gonna go go all out. Neither filled up last expo, and personally, I’d much rather play on a 9 foot table any day of the week(in the pro). Plus you get the best seat in the house to watch a pro play if you draw one. The experience almost makes it worth paying the $$. If I happen to hit a gear, the stars align, and I win a match it would be a good story later on too. lol

I'm going to pass on this one. This was the first time i attended in many years and i wasn't impressed at all.

Anybody else recall A Yapp tearing up pros while he was under 650 listed fargorate? Wasn’t that only like a year or two ago? Maybe the time flies more than I think . But that stuff happens. Now he’s an 831……

Yapp is 27 years old. He has been on the FargoRate World top 100 list for the last 8 years. In April 2016, when he was 19 years old, he was 769.

I always stay at the best western across from the king of Prussia mall. Price is right.. decent free breakfast and it’s like 15 mins a way.

What was I watching then? He was listed as a 640something playing in a pro event. Maybe I confused him with a different player but I remember thinking. Wow this guy is listed as a 640 and they were talking how he had put up a 5 or 6 pack on his last opponent. Maybe the tv station had his fargorate displayed incorrectly also. It was before I started getting more serious again.

But I remember that specifically because once I got back into the swing of things I noticed he was a pro player. And I thought it seemed like a fast progression from 640 to pro.
