Heaters for American pool tables?

Hi fellows,

As you may be aware pro-circuit snooker tournament tables use heaters under the slate. Do you feel heaters would be a good addition for pro-circuit American tournament pool tables like the Diamond or Brunswick ?

WHAT DOES HOTWIRE DO TO A TABLE?
The best way to describe a snooker table without a Hotwire system is like having an air hockey without air.

Many people will say it is to keep the damp off the table, which is right in a sense, but the main benefit of the system is to reduce the rolling friction of the ball, making the balls travel further with less power, thus making the table play more consistent and quicker. The system also helps in making heavy playing cushions more responsive. It can transform the way any table plays.

Thank you,
C&A

Greg and I have been discussing putting the Tesla plug in heaters in the ProAms used at the DCC event, and heating the entire box if the table with hot air, which would work better than any heating system ever put on a table. But here's a question for you to solve. Since any heating system is going to require some sort of electrical power, how would you propose doing that? Run 75 extension cords to the tables? Have the casino install 75 plug ins under where the tables are placed so they can be plugged in, for a once a year event? Since most 110V plug in are protected with a 15a circuit breaker, how would they need to be upgraded to handle 75 electrical heaters? Would there even be 75 wall plug ins to handle 75 extension cords being plugged in? And one more bridge to cross, you only have 3 days to power up all the tables, before the tables go into play!

Hi @realkingcobra

Heaters are used for pro-circuit snooker tournaments, so it can be done :)

I suspect that the next big upgrade for billiard tables will be heaters! Let's wait and see if it happens.

How many snooker tables do they set up for a tournament?

I've played on billiard tables that were heated, and at first it was weird playing on a table that is warm. And now it's quite weird playing on a billiard table now that isn't heated.

They are supposed to get rid of all the things that have to do with the effect of humidity on table play. I'm not good enough in billiards to know if this is 100% correct. But i've always thought why haven't they done this to pool tables.

Hi, I would suggest speaking to a licensed electrician. As many tables as they require, based on the number of players.
So in other words, you have absolutely NO idea as to what you're talking about. Seems to me if you're so knowledgeable about snooker, and their use of heated tables in Pro events, you'd at least have some kind of idea as to how many tables they set up for a PRO event!! Pool is NOT snooker, nor is it 3C billiards. The amount of pool tables brought into an event center vary from 16 to 350, FAR MORE than any snooker or 3C billiards events that have ever taken place. There's a reason why pool tables are not heated for events, it's called not PRACTICAL for the occasion!! AND not feasible!!!

With respect to your strong opinions on heaters, I submit that heated billiard tables are coming and heaters will be an option on new billiard tables in the future. It is only a matter of time as billiard tables evolve and continue to improve. IMHO, I think it is important to keep an open mind and discuss new ideas to improve pool. A Luddite mindset will not improve pool it only hinders it. May I suggest you try presenting your arguments in a more polite manner, there is no need to be aggressive and offensive on this forum, we are all here to discuss pool in a constructive and amiable manner to improve pool. Disagreement with suggestions and discussion is all about bringing forward new ideas and perspectives.

Enjoy your day!

Name ONE snooker event where 16 snooker tables are brought in, set up for an event, then taken back out afterwards, and they were heated!! Heating systems are NOT new buddy! The practicality of installing them on revolving pool tables is the problem, you FAIL to understand that!!!! So, YOU solve the problem, since you see it happening in the future!!!!!
