Hi, I'm from Montreal and happy to finally be able to post or participate in the raffles and such.

Always loved pool and I am in my 2nd year of league play. I play once a week in the league and sometimes go to tournaments on weekends. I play in maybe 7 or 8 a year. Finished 5th in my last one and was in the money for the first time.
I'm not practicing as near as I would like to, but having two young kids (5 and 3), I chose to spend time to raise and be with them instead of being at the pool room all the time.

I'll have another house built in less than two years and will make sure to have a table then so I'm able to practice from home.

I owned a Players, a Falcon, a SupawhippyMeucci and I am now playing with a 03-04 Pechauer P19.

Liked reading you people and glad to contribute and have a chance to exhange and learn.

Welcome. You're going to get a lot of good advice when you ask for it. Heck, you'll even get it when you didn't ask for it. There are a lot of people on here with a lot of pool smarts!! Have fun!!

You must be referring to all of us on the day crew huh? lol

Seriously, welcome aboard. It's always nice to have another player to exchange ideas with.

Welcome, I have kids myself so I know what you mean about time. I am lucky though because I just put a table in my basement so I can now practice at home.

I am new to the Forum myself but it has been fun and informative so far!

Do they still play Snooker up there? What's the ratio of pool tables to snooker tables? Do you see any bar tables (seven foot tables) up there in the pubs? Inquiring minds want to know.

Where'd you get a name like jaywheel? I like it. Can I borrow it sometime?

I actually live in the Mtl suburbs. The pool room where I play leagues has 17 9-footers for 1 snooker table. Was still living in Mtl two years ago and there was two billiards rooms with a lot of snooker tables. I must say that pretty much only the people over 55 and the really good overall players do play snooker. You can still catch a game of skittles sometimes.

The young generation almost solely plays 9-ball around here and the casual player who doesn't own a cue or play in a league plays 8-ball.

In the pubs, you often have 1 to 3 bar box tables.

Food

I used to do a lot of work in Montreal; a deli on every corner. Some of the best food I ever had. When I was in a bar playing pool and winning, if everybody started talking in French, then it was time to get out.

Welcome to the forum, eh? ;)

Hey, did you register your name with a TM? (hopefully you've been lurking for the last month, if not - that was an inside joke of sorts)

What type of table do you have your eyes on jaywheel?

Welcome to the forum! C'mon in and have a seat.... I think the hot chocolate is almost ready..... Kinda cold, lately. Not the hot chocolate.... the weather.

So, how long ya been lurkin' out yonder? Ya know, it's a lot warmer in here than it is on the outside!

If you've been lurking long, you know about our good buddy, Smorgass Bored and the great loss the forum suffered when he left us. You probably also know about the Super Billiards Expo that happened last weekend. Did you get a chance to make it out that way? Greatest show on Earth!! A couple of lurkers came by our booth at the Expo. It was kinda neat to meet lurkers, as well as forum members. Probably had more stop by, but I know about at least 2 or 3 of them.

You said you have a couple of young'uns. Do they know how to play pool? Do you have pool halls where families can go play, or just bars/clubs? I guess when you get the table in the house, they'll be learning how to play? Gotta teach 'em young! Then, you'll have someone to play pool with, when the weather is bad, or you're sick and you have to stay home.

Welcome!! Make yourself at home.... It's your home, too, now. If you've got any questions, you know there are quite a few of us who would be more than happy to help you out. And, if you have any problems with the forum, be sure to speak up. The guys in charge of this place work very hard to keep it running smoothly. (They do a great job of it, too.)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Been lurkin for a year or so I'd say.

My kids don't know how to play pool. My oldest is 5 and my youngest 3. My oldest is already asking questions about the "hows" of the game and the youngest already mimics the stroking of an invisible cue having seen matches on tv.

Main problem and it will also answer someone's question: not a single place in my city where you can play pool if you are under 18 because they all have liquor licenses and poker machines. Pretty much the same situation in Montreal, where most poolrooms added poker tables due to the popularity of texas hold'em. No junior leagues nowhere or nothing.:frown:

Like I said, when I move in a year or two, (the basement of the house where I live now does not have enough room left) I'll buy a 9-footer and introduce the game to the kids.
