Been lurking for a good month now, decided I outta join and say hello. I'm a completely new player, 26 years old. I've played at bars before but probably less than 20 times in my life before I purchase a table for my garage two months ago. The amount of information I've already obtained from here is great, really good stuff for someone like me to at least get my footing in a new sport that I'm loving.

I'm surprised how much I've improved over the two months. I've come close to running out my first rack of 9 ball a few times, and am really enjoying the game. How much time do you think I need to give myself before checking out a league? I'm not a big drinker when playing, and I am extremely competitive. I'm fully aware I'll get it handed to me, and I'm looking forward to the learning experience. What is the normal level of competition at your average APA league, how does a single person go about getting on a team, I don't have any friends that play or would want to take it as seriously as I would like to.

I also purchased a McDermott lucky series cue via ebay for like 80 bucks just to have something decent to learn on before I make my first serious cue purchase. Can anybody point me in the right direction, for a solid cue in the 250-350 price range that would be a good cue to further develop my game. Ideally I'd like to try out some different ones to get a feel for them and go from there but I don't even really know where I could do something like that.

Anyways, great forum I'm happy to be apart of it. Thanks for the great info.

Welcome to the board ! Make sure you have spell check on and dont mention cte .

As far as buying a really good playing cue for about $350, my suggestion would be to contact Judd cues. Their webpage says the JT-1 starts at around $800 but they also make some sneaky petes for $350. Al Romero makes some great cues for about $300. These are cue makers that make great cues that are not super well known and have really good deals.

Welcome to the house of felt lunacy. It always helps to watch others when in the learning process.

I work directly with Allan Leon (UpstateAl), who is also a member here, for the sole purpose of promoting all disciplines of pool. I have been gathering all the **FREE** pool streams at Ustream since 2008 -- you can have them in just minutes. Go to http://www.ustream.tv/user/cmbwsu/crowds, click on the 360+ icons at the right until they read "In this Crowd". The list keeps growing so check back from time-to-time for any new ones which will appear at top -- no need to go through all the pages again! It's as simple as that! Once you do that, click on your username at the top right of the page and your Dashboard will appear -- BOOKMARK that page. Anyone live streaming upon entry will automatically appear on the Dashboard. There are over 12,000 recorded "pool only" videos there as well. PLEASE SHARE THIS AND HELP PROMOTE OUR SPORT!....'nuf said!
